Description

DANE is seeking an experienced AI Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support Federal clients in leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive mission outcomes. This role is ideal for a professional who combines functional, strategic, and technical fluency to help agencies identify, prioritize, and operationalize AI use cases. The AI SME will serve as a translator between emerging AI technologies and government mission needs, helping leaders navigate adoption, governance, risk, and value realization.

Responsibilities

AI Strategy & Federal Advisory

  • Advise Federal clients on enterprise AI strategy, roadmap development, and capability maturity
  • Identify and prioritize mission-aligned AI use cases (e.g., automation, decision support, citizen services)
  • Support development of AI investment cases, business value frameworks, and implementation plans
  • Provide guidance on Responsible AI (RAI), governance, and compliance with Federal policies (e.g., OMB, NIST AI RMF)
Use Case Development & Translation

  • Translate agency mission challenges into AI-enabled solutions
  • Collaborate with technical teams to shape solution architectures and implementation approaches
  • Develop concepts of operations (CONOPS), user stories, and functional requirements
  • Evaluate vendor solutions, tools, and platforms for Federal environments
AI & Data Literacy Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders
  • Facilitate workshops, design thinking sessions, and AI ideation sessions
  • Drive organizational change management and adoption strategies for AI initiatives
Delivery & Program Support

  • Support delivery of AI-enabled transformation programs across Federal agencies
  • Coordinate across data science, engineering, and business teams
  • Ensure alignment of AI solutions with IT modernization, cloud, and data strategies
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 8 or more years of experience 
  • Experience supporting Federal agencies or government programs
  • Demonstrated experience in AI, advanced analytics, or automation initiatives (strategy, advisory, or implementation)
  • Familiarity with Generative AI concepts (LLMs, copilots, automation tools, etc.) and their business applications
  • Strong understanding of Federal operating environment, acquisition, and compliance requirements
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust or security clearance
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Federal AI strategies, data strategies, or digital transformation efforts
  • Prior consulting experience 
  • Experience supporting proposals, capture, or business development
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI / AI governance frameworks
