Job description

Regional School Unit 57

Title: Bus Driver

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma and/or formal training in bus driving or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience
  2. Valid State of Maine CDL, Class B with P & S Endorsements (required)
  3. To communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, community, and school personnel

Reports to: Director of Transportation

Job Goal:ย 

1.ย ย  ย Safe operation, maintenance, and routing of the assigned school bus on a day-to-day basis

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Operate school bus safely on a daily basis
  2. Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects and report any defects utilizing daily inspection form
  3. Clean assigned bus inside daily and wash inside and outside monthly or sooner if appropriate
  4. Discharge students only at authorized stops
  5. Enforce rules governing student conduct on buses and utilize district's formal discipline procedure when appropriate
  6. Report any damage of vehicle to Director of Transportation
  7. File accident report as necessary
  8. Require students to walk in front of the bus and await driver signal before they cross the highway
  9. Utilize safe driving practices in accordance with State law
  10. Abide by district's drug and alcohol testing policy
  11. Assign students to bus seats when circumstances warrant
  12. Assist the Director of Transportation in the planning of bus stops and schedule
  13. Refer all requests from parents concerning transportation changes to the Director of Transportation
  14. Assist in inter-school delivery of mail, and supplies
  15. Ensure that the bus is empty and secured whenever the bus is unattended.ย  Periodically check the bus for security purposes
  16. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift (ranging from 25-75 lbs depending on student size), bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.ย 

Terms of Employment: Hourly,, work year (176 days) and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57ย  School Board.ย 

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation.ย
