A Brief Overview
The Microbiology Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing all phases of microbiological testing to support product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures accurate execution of testing protocols, proper documentation, and maintenance of laboratory systems in alignment with company and regulatory standards. The position supports environmental monitoring, method validation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the microbiology laboratory.
What you will do

  • Perform microbiological testing including bioburden and enrichment testing of raw materials
  • Conduct environmental monitoring (air/swab plates, water testing)
  • Assist with method suitability and preservative efficacy testing (PET)
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test results and laboratory records
  • Monitor and record laboratory equipment parameters; ensure proper operation (e.g., autoclave)
  • Support investigations including OOS (Out of Specification) and OOT (Out of Trend)
  • Prepare microbiological media and maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization
  • Audit cleaning and sanitation of equipment and production areas
  • Support validation activities and new product introduction processes
  • Assist with training of laboratory personnel and temporary staff
  • Manage laboratory supplies and inventory
  • Maintain microbiology laboratory audit readiness at all times
  • Conduct laboratory studies and risk assessments for isolates identified through environmental monitoring
  • Assist in daily oversight of microbiology technicians and lab assistants
  • Review, update, and approve QT9 documents for routing
  • Support method transfers as needed
  • Communicate with internal teams and external customers as required
  • Participate in meetings requiring microbiological input


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related biological sciences (Preferred)


Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years prior laboratory experience in microbiology or related field (Preferred)
  • 1-3 years in regulated environments (GMP/OTC/cosmetics/pharma) (Preferred)
