Job description

Ohio Wesleyan University is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles North of Columbus. The Accessibility Services Office invites applications for a Testing Center Assistant-Coordinator. Testing Center Assistant-Coordinator will ensure the secure, fair, and accessible administration of exams for scheduled students, including those receiving disability accommodations. This role supports institutional policies and ADA compliance by maintaining a controlled testing environment and providing appropriate accommodations as approved by the Accessibility Services Office. This part-time position will run through the academic year from mid-August through early May.

Main Responsibilities Include:

Test Administration:

  • Check in students using proper identification procedures.
  • Clearly communicate test rules and procedures to students.
  • Prepare and set up testing materials and equipment according to specific requirements.
  • Distribute, monitor, and collect tests (computer-based and/or paper-based).
  • Maintain a quiet, distraction-reduced environment appropriate for testing.
  • Ensure confidentiality and sensitivity when working with students receiving accommodations.
  • Monitor the use of assistive technology and maintain compliance with accessibility protocols.

Security and Integrity:

  • Monitor exams to prevent cheating and ensure compliance with testing regulations.
  • Report academic dishonesty or policy violations promptly.
  • Ensure secure storage and handling of test materials before and after administration.


Customer Service:

  • Provide a professional and supportive atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Answer general questions related to testing services.
  • Troubleshoot minor technical issues during testing and escalate when necessary.


Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of testing sessions and incidents.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments and updating databases as needed.
  • Maintain Testing Center email communications to faculty and students.
  • Report irregularities and testing violations to appropriate personnel.


Desired Qualifications Include:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a testing environment, education, or working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
  • Proficiency with assistive technology (e.g., screen readers, speech-to-text software) is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of personal integrity.
  • Knowledge of OWU Campus, policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Complete and pass background check.


Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work scheduled hours, typically about 28 hours per week. A limited amount of weekend hours may be necessary to monitor email (virtual). Weekend and evening proctoring will be required during finals weeks (on campus).
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend at least one flight of stairs and cross campus to deliver exams to multiple university buildings and offices.
  • May require occasional lifting of testing materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs).
