Job description

Teacher

Characteristics

Who You Are:

  • A Mentor, Not Just an Instructor: You have moved past the "sage on the stage" model. You understand that your role is to guide students toward resources?AI tutors, frameworks, and tools?rather than just delivering lectures.

  • Empathetic and Resilient: You recognize that behavior is communication. You don't see a "difficult" student; you see a young person whose basic needs might not be met, and you possess the radical empathy required to build a bridge to them.

  • An Instructional Pioneer: You are eager to be part of developing a better instructional model. You believe that student learning, practical skill-building, and character development must be at the very center of every educational experience.

  • Tech-Fluent: You aren't intimidated by new technology. You?re the person who sees a new AI tool and immediately thinks, "How can this help my students learn better or faster?" and you can master new platforms in a matter of days.

  • A Lifelong Learner: You are a voracious learner. You are constantly seeking out new ways to refine your craft, whether through reading, podcasts, or professional collaboration.

  • A Culture Builder: You are a mission-driven individual. Our governing values (Growth, Excellence, Integrity, Service, Teamwork) resonate with your character, and you have a deep desire to work with others who seek to exemplify those values. You show up for your team and your students with consistent energy and a belief that every student can create the future they desire.

  • Organized and Action-Oriented: You can manage the "administrivia" of a classroom?testing coordination and data entry?without losing sight of the human being sitting in front of you.

Who We Are

We are a network of dropout prevention and recovery charter high schools in Ohio, committed to our mission of empowering others to achieve their full potential. No matter what a student?s background or past, we strive to give them the tools, resources, and vision needed to become the best version of themselves. We believe that when young people gain real-world skills, confidence, and purpose, they can create the futures they desire.

Our schools blend academics, career readiness, and wraparound services that meet the needs of the whole student. We are in constant pursuit of not only serving students in the best way possible but also becoming a pillar in the communities we serve.

Everything we do in our organization is guided by our mission. Our culture is a natural outgrowth of our amazing people, whose lives and work are defined by our governing values: growth, excellence, integrity, service, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

Instructional Excellence & Mentoring

  • Facilitate a personalized learning environment where students take ownership of their pace and progress.

  • Direct students to appropriate academic resources, including AI tutors and intervention programs, teaching them how to find answers independently.

  • Conduct bi-weekly 1-1 mentoring sessions to provide feedback on academic progress, attitude, and behavioral growth.

  • Implement trauma-informed principles and restorative justice practices daily, including private redirection.

  • Assist in conducting proactive outreach, including phone calls, texts, and home visits, to re-engage students who have disengaged.

Academic Management & Compliance

  • Coordinate and proctor state-approved assessments, including Ohio End-of-Course (EOC) exams and STAR testing.

  • Monitor student credit completion and intervene early when a student falls behind their graduation plan.

  • Maintain accurate records in Google Workspace and other school systems to ensure data integrity for state reporting.

Community & Culture

  • Actively participate in GEIST Councils and school-wide events to build a sense of belonging for students.

  • Collaborate with Success Coaches and Family Advocates to provide wraparound support for students facing external barriers.

  • Contribute to a "Ship Shape" campus by maintaining an organized, professional, and welcoming classroom environment and accurate instructional/student data systems.
