Job Summary:This leadership role drives IGS's legislative and regulatory strategy for its renewable energy businesses, with a primary focus on residential and commercial solar, distributed energy resources (DERs), battery storage, community solar, and emerging clean energy technologies. The Director develops and executes advocacy strategies, builds relationships with regulators and policymakers, influences legislation and regulatory policy, and helps position IGS as a trusted leader in the evolving renewable energy marketplace. This role partners closely with business leaders to identify regulatory opportunities, mitigate risk, and shape policies that support long-term growth.Primary Responsibilities:Lead legislative and regulatory initiatives impacting IGS's renewable energy businesses, including residential and commercial solar, battery storage, community solar, virtual power plants (VPPs), and other distributed energy resources.Develop and execute advocacy strategies before state utility commissions, legislatures, energy offices, and regulatory agencies to advance IGS's renewable energy objectives.Build and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, legislators, policymakers, utilities, regulators, renewable energy organizations, and industry stakeholders.Monitor, analyze, and communicate legislative, regulatory, and market developments affecting renewable energy policies across IGS's operating footprint.Lead the development of regulatory comments, testimony, policy papers, legislative proposals, and advocacy materials.Represent IGS before utility commissions, legislative committees, trade associations, industry coalitions, and renewable energy working groups.Influence policy development related to net energy metering, interconnection, distributed generation, battery storage, virtual power plants, renewable portfolio standards, permitting, and customer renewable energy programs.Partner with Solar Operations, Business Development, Finance, Legal, Regulatory, and Executive Leadership to evaluate regulatory impacts and develop strategic responses.Help ensure business practices remain aligned with evolving regulatory requirements and consumer protection standards applicable to renewable energy programs.Identify legislative and regulatory opportunities that support business growth and market expansion.Collaborate with external counsel, lobbyists, consultants, and trade organizations to advance strategic initiatives.Provide regular policy updates, strategic recommendations, and regulatory insights to executive leadership.Required Skills:Strong understanding of renewable energy policy, distributed energy resources (DERs), residential and commercial solar, battery storage, and utility regulatory frameworks.Knowledge of state utility commission processes, legislative advocacy, and utility program development.Ability to interpret complex regulatory proceedings and translate them into practical business strategies.Excellent written communication skills with experience drafting testimony, amendments, regulatory comments, legislative analyses, or policy recommendations.Demonstrated ability to advocate effectively before regulators, legislators, utilities, and industry organizations.Proven coalition and relationship-building skills with policymakers, utilities, renewable energy stakeholders, and trade associations.Strong strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate legislative and regulatory trends impacting renewable energy markets.Ability to influence cross-functional business leaders and manage competing priorities.Operate independently while managing multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.Exceptional analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills.Experience with political action committee budget managementMinimum Education and Experience:Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Policy, Energy, Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field preferred.Juris Doctor (JD) or Master's degree in Public Policy, Energy, Environmental Policy, or related field preferred.Minimum of 8 years of public policy, legislative affairs, regulatory affairs, government affairs, or renewable energy advocacy experience; OR 5 years with a JD and directly relevant experience.Experience working with state utility commissions, legislatures, public utilities, or renewable energy organizations strongly preferred.Experience supporting solar, distributed energy resources, battery storage, or other clean energy technologies preferred.Existing relationships with regulators, legislators, utility leaders, renewable energy associations, and industry stakeholders are highly desirable.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with residential and commercial solar markets.Knowledge of distributed generation, interconnection policy, net energy metering, community solar, battery storage, virtual power plants, and utility rate design.Experience participating in organizations such as SEIA, regional solar associations, EEI, NARUC, or similar industry groups.Familiarity with renewable energy incentives, tax credits, clean energy standards, and state energy policy.Demonstrated success influencing legislation or regulatory policy that supports renewable energy market growth.LI-AM1Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis.
