Crane Operator

We offer comprehensive design phase and construction phase services under all delivery and contractual methods, including construction management, general contracting, design-build, and design-assist. In addition, we offer self-perform construction services including concrete, steel erection, carpentry, drywall and acoustical ceilings and an in-house AWI Certified mill shop.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Operates a variety of cranes, including the 50-ton Truck Crane

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely supply the crane and hook to all trades.
  • Move loads up to within the equipment load limits.
  • Control hydraulic levers, gas, and break.
  • Responsible for loading items such as steel and concrete forms.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance, lubricating and cleaning and safety check of the assigned crane. Ex: Greasing points, back up alarms, check fluid levels such as water, oil, hydraulic, and transmission.
  • Communicate with ground crew to signal crane pick using both audible and hand crane signals.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to get in and out of large crane several times to inspect load and crane.
  • Must be able to maneuver crane in confined area, while moving and hoisting heavy loads of up to within the equipment load limits to specific locations.
  • Must be able to work for 10-12 hours per day in a large crane in an enclosed cab.
  • Must be able to maintain high level of awareness for a busy project work environment.
  • Must have good reflexes and reaction times to crane signals from a spotter in dangerous circumstances.
  • Must be capable of operating the assigned machine in a safe manner so as not to jeopardize their safety, the safety of others around them and all other related equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain physical strength and stamina.
  • Must be familiar with Load Moment Indicators (LMI).
  • Must be able to coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and feet.
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and legs fully.
  • Must be able to coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ground conditions: uneven surfaces, tripping hazards, slippery material. Exposure to construction traffic including trucks and equipment. One type of crane is the 50-ton Truck Crane. The main boom on the crane is 128 feet and has a capacity to lift up to 50 tons.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED is preferred. NCCO Certification preferred. CDL preferred. Valid driver's license.
