Job description

The Big Walnut Local School District is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time bus driver position for the 2025.2026 school year.  All training provided on-site - bus drivers will start as a full-time van driver while training!

 

Description:   The contracted driver shall work 6.5 hours, per negotiated agreement. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

1.     High School Diploma or equivalent

 

2.     Appropriate certification as required by ODE

 

3.     Appropriate certification as required by the State of Ohio (license with CDL endorsement)

 

4.     Must have current BCI and FBI background checks

 

5.     Able to pass all medical, drug and alcohol screening

 

6.     Demonstrates knowledge and or experience of school bus operation

 

7.     Demonstrates ability to work with children, parents, supervisors and colleagues

 

8.     Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board finds appropriate and acceptable

   

General Responsibilities: 

 

1.     Maintains order on the bus at all times.

 

2.     Drive students to and from their designated bus stop or place of residence to the appropriate school.

 

3.     Maintains a clean bus at all times.

 

4.     Maintains adequate amounts of fuel in the bus.

 

5.     Responsible for appropriate levels of all fluids.

 

6.     Responsible for pre and post trip inspections of bus.

 

7.     Responsible for meeting all federal, state/ODE, and local laws and regulations as they relate to school bus operation. 

 

8.     Confers with the building principal regarding any student problems.

 

9.     Reports immediately to supervisor any problem or accident occurring on the bus.

 

10.  Reports immediately to the bus mechanic any problem or mechanical failure of the assigned bus.

 

11.  Adheres to all guidelines established for the use of communication equipment.     

 

12.  Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
