Are you a detail-oriented, strategic finance professional who enjoys hands-on accounting and providing clear financial insight to leadership? We are seeking a part-time Controller to oversee the firm’s financial management and support the overall vision and mission of Jarvis Law Office, PC. This role focuses on core controllership responsibilities, including accounting, reporting, controls, and financial analysis, making it ideal for a proactive leader who can balance accuracy with practicality in a growth-oriented environment.

The Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing budgeting and forecasting, supporting audits and compliance, and driving process improvements within the finance function. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Key Responsibilities – Financial Management & Controller Duties

  • Oversee the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting as needed.
  • Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting activities; provide analysis and recommendations to leadership.
  • Review and approve accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate business cases, capital investments, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Support the development and monitoring of KPIs and performance metrics for financial outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and workflows within the finance function.
  • Review company contracts to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and compliance guidelines.
  • Oversee company-wide expense management to ensure adherence to approved budgets and financial goals.
  • Perform additional finance-related duties as needed to support the firm’s objectives.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • CPA, or similar certification required.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting/controllership.
  • Prior experience in a professional services or law firm environment preferred (but not required).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a part-time schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and build positive relationships across departments.
