Job description

Observation Unit/MS/TELE/ONC - 12N Certs Required: BCLS Certs Preferred: ACLS, OCN Skills Required: Telemetry, MS/TELE, Interpretation of dysrhythmias, Starting IVs, PICC line management, 2 years Minimum Experience Required, Accepts 1st time travelers. Scrubs not provided, Color: Navy Blue/White Floating Requirements: May occasionally float to the James ED to assist with inpatient Med/Surg tele patients awaiting transfer to their acute care unit. Orientation to the area will be provided Patient Diagnoses • Dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities • Nausea and Vomiting • Chemotherapy/Radiation symptom management • Acute Kidney Injury • Palliative/Pain Control • Urinary Tract Infection • Syncope • Post-Procedure (IR, GI, Pulm) requiring overnight stay • Transition to Hospice • PEG tube/Line placement • Fever of Unknown Origin Special Procedures/Unit Details • The Observation manages patients with anticipated short lengths of stays up to two midnights, at which point a disposition decision is made.

The goal of James observation is to provide high quality, efficient care, without discharging or admitting patients prematurely. • Patients boarded from the ED and ICC in observation status. Patients are stable and unlikely to require an upgrade in care.

Goal is for discharge in less than two midnights. Unit providers include APPs and supervising MDs. • Ratio 1:4 with charge in an assignment.
