Job description

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel. The engineer must be able to work independently, as well as, with others. Responsibilities may include: maintaining the exterior of the building, parking lot, and common areas, maintaining all equipment in guest rooms and public areas, conducting monthly safety inspections and training the staff on safety and emergency procedures, and working with vendors. Responsibilities
  • Maintain good personal appearance at all times; wear proper uniform and name tag as prescribed by the hotel. 
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of the property, ensuring that all preventative maintenance programs (guestroom & public areas) are completed and documented. 
  • Ensures "guest first" attitude and provides friendly guest contact experience. 
  • Ensures good safety practices of associates and guests throughout the hotel, assisting in the maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures. 
  • Ensures fulfillment of preventative maintenance for rooms, public areas, and other department programs are complete and specific to brand and hotel standards with appropriate logs; rechecks room/suite before releasing to housekeeping/front office. 
  • Maintains knowledge of all heating/cooling, voltage systems, wiring, and motors throughout the property. 
  • Ensures proper installation, repair and maintenance of all equipment and plumbing. 
  • Maintains a current inventory of all supplies. 
  • Maintains the hotel grounds; curb appeal, and building exteriors consistently. 
  • Maintains a work order assignment program for completed and pending work orders. Prioritizes and completes work orders in a timely manner. Monitors all deficiencies. Communicates to the requesting party upon completion when needed. 
  • Ensures swimming pool and spa maintenance duties are performed and documented according to manufacturer specifications and local Health Department Regulations. 
  • Review purchase requests and monitor expenses to ensure budgeted goals are met/exceeded. 
  • Reviews all outside contract services for departmental responsibilities with the hotel's General Manager. 
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision. 
  • Ability to stand & walk for extended periods; must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; mobility to bend, squat, stretch when needed during equipment inspection/repair 
  • Work as part of a team (hotel staff) and possess a can do attitude 
  • Additional duties from the hotel manager will be assigned as necessary 
Required Skills
  • The Maintenance Engineer must be willing to respond to emergencies, even if after hours, and work with corporate maintenance on special remodeling projects or capital expenditure needs. This position requires overall maintenance knowledge and trouble shooting ability with skills in painting, HVAC, carpentry, equipment, and tool usage.Â
