What you'll do at DBH:

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health is seeking a detailoriented and proactive Project Manager 1 to support projects that strengthen services across the agency's medical and forensic programs. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating complex initiatives, building relationships with internal and external partners, and improving processes that support statewide behavioral health operations.

  • Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and coordination across teams and leadership.
  • Work closely with hospital administrators, program directors, and agency leadership to support strategic initiatives.
  • Organize project activities, monitor progress, and help ensure projects stay on schedule.
  • Assist with data-related activities, including organizing information used for planning and decision-making.
  • Support procurement-related tasks such as preparing materials, coordinating reviews, and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Assist with developing and managing grant proposals and tracking grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with partners across federal, state, and local agencies to gather information and ensure program alignment.
  • Help plan and coordinate key events, including the annual Forensic Conference.

This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of 15 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications

Successful completion of 2 yrs. post-secondary education majoring in business administration, public administration, computer science/information technology, social science, or health, with major being commensurate with project to be assigned; 12 mos. exp. in budgeting & calculating cost projections of program/projects. 

-Or 3 yrs. exp. in project management (i.e., management & development of project/program requirements, design, development, testing/pilot, training & full-scale implementation), with experience to be commensurate with project/program &/or position description on file (e.g., specific human service program area, management information sciences, fiscal); 12 mos. exp. in budgeting & calculating cost projections of program/projects.
