Responsibilities

Purpose: The Pre-Registration Financial Clearance Representative (FCR) interacts with patients and/or theirrepresentatives to perform insurance verifications, obtain insurance information and accurately enter and/or update allrequired data in the electronic medical record (EMR). The FCR provides benefit education and financial obligationestimates to patients and collects deposits as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the day to day work and productivity of staff.
  • Advises and assists staff on problem solving issues.
  • Assists supervisor in scheduling employee time off and daily work assignments.
  • Aids management in a variety of areas such as but not limited to hiring, training, employee engagement, performance management, and reinforcing established expectations from management, and scheduling.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert which includes training staff on operations, workflows, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Contacts patients or their designees to collect accurate insurance information.
  • Uses integrated health information systems and telephone technology with customer service skills to facilitate customer interactions such that the patient experiences the Medical Center and its entities as an accessible, coordinated, and seamless entity.
  • Performs an accurate search for patient in EMR data base, thus, reducing the number of duplicate patient records.
  • Assesses the patient's financial ability to pay for services, referring patients to financial counseling staff when appropriate.
  • Sends eligibility requests to all payors to verify accurate and current coverage.
  • Creates estimates, provides patients with financial liability education, and collects copayments and deposits as necessary.
  • Alerts management of problems with systems and workflow.
  • Interacts and maintains excellent working relationships with medical staff, referring physicians, and theirdesignees.
  • Displays the highest level of customer service, attentiveness, and consideration possible in all cases, keeping within the standard set by the Office of Compliance and HIPAA in reference to confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform functions using job-related software and systems.
  • Maintains employer training requirements.
  • Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workersand supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements: High school diploma/GED with 1+ years of experience in insurance, healthcare, or related field. Excellentcustomer service skills coupled with enthusiasm and compassion along with the ability to work in a fast pacedenvironment. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive,confidential situations and establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, team members, and othersthroughout the organization. Ability to escalate issues if necessary. Experience with PC applications including MS Officeand Internet.

Preferences: Experience with EPIC
