Job description

Position Summary
Structural Designer I is an entry level position that works under close and immediate supervision of experienced engineers (PM or PE). Structural Designer I will provide engineering/technical skills to complete projects in an accurate, complete, and professional manner, and within the established time frame and budget. The Structural Designer I is expected to develop their skills and ability to work with greater independence.
Essential Functions
  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills and experience.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents.
  • Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents.
  • Responsible for reviewing work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting it for review to ensure PJF QA/QC standards are followed.
  • Research design options and report finding to supervisor.
  • Must work closely with CAD Technicians.
  • Provide drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate into drawings by CAD Technicians.
  • Attend and participate in PJF meetings.
  • Maintain good client relations.
  • Actively pursue opportunities in learning and increasing technical knowledge through self-study, webinars, seminars, etc.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with clients, co-workers and management.
  • Performs other duties related to project deliverables as directed by a supervisor.
  • Maintain neat and organized work area that allows efficient access to project information required by other team members.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as stated in the current PJF Employee Policy and Procedure Manual.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of structural engineering calculations.
  • Strong working knowledge and efficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn company owned software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school is required.
  • EI certification preferred or ability to obtain EI.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Due to the collaborative nature of this position and accessibility for in-house and on-site client meetings, it is important that the work be performed in the office and during normal business hours.
  • May be required to travel to visit a client’s office or construction job site.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
