A Brief Overview
The Director, Field Communications supports the achievement of Safelite's strategic priorities by planning and executing a communication strategy that informs, engages and inspires Safelite associates across the nation.
This role serves as a conduit to our field leaders and internal partners to help develop and deploy communication strategies and tactics that align with our brand and culture. This individual provides ongoing counsel and serves as a campaign manager for business priorities with a variety of associate audiences, primarily in our frontline populations.
We're seeking a savvy internal communications director who has a passion for informing and engaging distributed populations, and excels at prioritizing and distilling complex information into compelling communication. This versatile role requires you to take on a diverse range of projects that are critical to the success of the business, demanding adaptability, quick thinking, and the ability to solve problems and interact with leaders effectively.
You'll be responsible for managing internal communications strategies and campaigns for various teams and business units, including but not limited to our Operations Excellence, Field and Supply Chain teams.

What you will do

Strategic Communications & Thought Leadership
Serve as a strategic thought partner to Supply Chain and Store leaders by translating operational initiatives into clear, compelling communications that connect to our mission and values.
Develop and implement message frameworks and communication strategies for high-profile, complex initiatives that drive business outcomes and cultural alignment.
Provide strategic counsel on messaging and positioning, influencing stakeholders to ensure communications are clear, contextual, and aligned with organizational goals.
Translate business strategies into actionable communication plans that inform, align, and engage associates across all levels.

Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement
Build trusted relationships with cross-functional partners and field leaders to understand business needs, priorities, and sensitivities, ensuring communications are relevant and impactful.
Proactively seek and address competing priorities across projects, escalating and influencing as needed to align stakeholders and drive resolution.
Solicit, socialize, and incorporate feedback to continuously improve the communication experience for our distributed workforce.

Internal Communications Excellence
Align holistic communications across platforms (e.g., SharePoint, FirstUp) to ensure consistency, accuracy, and clarity.
Regularly assess the effectiveness of internal communication channels and recommend improvements to increase engagement and awareness.
Create measurement strategies to monitor associate understanding and sentiment, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.

Editorial & Content Strategy
Write and edit messages with clarity of purpose and intent, ensuring alignment with the message framework and providing editorial guidance to others.
Demonstrate the ability to tailor communications for diverse audiences, balancing tactical execution with strategic storytelling.
Identify shared editorial opportunities and streamline work across the Internal Communications team to enhance efficiency and cohesion.

Project & Process Management
Manage communication calendars, project timelines, and logistics to ensure timely and effective execution.
Triage and prioritize communication requests, advising on strategy and approach to maximize impact.
Drive process improvements and foster collaboration to support daily store execution and broader initiatives.

Performs other duties as assigned

What you will need

  • Bachelor's Degree Communications, Marketing or equivalent experience required

  • 10+ years relevant communications experience

  • Experience with all aspects of internal communications including speechwriting, presentation development, org announcements, crisis communications, and creating engaging and dynamic communication vehicles.

  • Experience in engaging associates in communication about health and wellness benefits, a plus.

  • 1-3 years experience as a people leader

  • Self-starter, proactive, critical thinker with a proven ability to build relationships with other teams across all levels.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skill; ability to capture appropriate tone and voice.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage a heavy workload. Must be agile and nimble with ability to quickly adapt to changes while multitasking a variety of projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to lead projects and confidently problem-solve.

  • Confident, approachable team player. Service mindset.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite

Expected Work Location (In Office): It is expected that you will primarily perform work at the Safelite Home Office (7400 Safelite Way, Columbus, OH 43235). You are required to work in the office at least 4 days a week. Changes to work location arrangements are subject to managerial approval and business needs.
