Job description

Acute and Regional Pain Service Position

0.9 FTE, 36 hours per week

Rotating day/night 12-hour shifts

The Acute and Regional Pain Service (APS) is a dedicated team of physicians and advance-practice nurses who specialize in managing pain in infants, children and young adults who are hospitalized or having surgery and need specialized pain management. The APS provides 24 hours in hospital coverage with APP provider who collaborates with the anesthesia pain team to manage patients on various pain pumps, with regional anesthesia including epidural catheters and peripheral nerve catheters, management of medication weans and works with patients, families, and primary services to develop a comprehensive pain treatment plan.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Assesses patients and/or populations; develops, implements and evaluates plans of care; clearly documents and communicates information both in written and verbal forms.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established guidelines and standards as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Utilizing evidence based practice, serves as a clinical expert for policies, procedures, documentation, and skills.
  • Assists in the education, training and development of new and existing staff members.
  • Engages in the "community of the work unit" by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, engages in Quality Improvement.
  • Leverages technology and informatics to optimize healthcare outcomes.
  • Commits to continued professional development of self and others.
  • Contributes to the division and/or specialty goals and the Hospital Strategic Plan.

Education Requirement:

Master of Science degree or equivalent provision, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of Ohio, required.

Certifications:

Maintains national certification as APRN in the appropriate population foci for the position, or PA, required.
