    Job description

    Who Are We?
    The Toro Company's Shakopee plant is the largest non-engine supplier to toro with 125,000 square feet of production facility. The Toro Company (NYSE: TTC) is a leading worldwide provider of innovative solutions for the outdoor environment, including turf, snow and ground-engaging equipment, and irrigation and outdoor lighting solutions. This location produces professional and residential component products. Employees at this modern facility provide precise cutting products, machine components, tooled stampings, and metal fabrication for assembly at other TTC manufacturing facilities. For over 100 years, our ideas have transformed the way professionals and homeowners care for their outdoors, including many leading sports venues and historic sites around the world.
    Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for determining methods, processes, and equipment required in the Grinding production area. Responsible for developing, analyzing and documenting cost information for new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, make vs. buy, and managing product cost to target.
    What Will You Do?
    In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
    • Provides engineering expertise to aid in the development of annual and long-term business plans. Designs, justifies, develops and implements the engineering portions of the plans. Evaluates and initiates new methods, processes, materials and equipment to ensure competitive position.
    • Prepares IAR's; coordinates the investigation, selection, installation, prove-out and training to successfully integrate projects into the unit.
    • Reviews new parts in the concept stage. Makes recommendations to standardize features, promote cost effective zero defect manufacturing, and improve functionality that support DFMA.
    • Determine parts to be produced within the Value Stream. Provides manufacturing input and coordination to design project teams to assure timely and effective new part introductions.
    • Prepares supporting documentation (cost estimate/tooling budgets) for new project development milestones and all other product redesign as assigned.
    • Provides analyzed cost data to Engineering, Marketing, and Finance for use in determining project direction, product pricing, parts pricing, budgeting P&L's, and internal rate of return investment calculations.
    • Provides direct interface to Design Engineering on process capability, materials utilization, and design alternatives to optimize value.
    • Analyze and provide solutions for problems which adversely affect quality, productivity, safety, flexibility and cost.
    • Develop, update and maintain process documentation and costing data for manufacturing equipment.
    • Review and evaluate the sourcing of parts pertaining to the production unit. Recommend alternate sourcing when appropriate. Provide direction for long term sourcing decisions.
    • Provide support for key or specialized processes with functions such as tool design, tool layouts, CNC programming, set-up data/procedures and metallurgical analysis.
    • General manufacturing floor support, including mentoring and training grinding machine operators.
    • Apply Total Quality, Project Management and LEAN principles in the daily performance of the job.
    • Interfaces with other departments in a spirit of cooperation consistent with the overall objectives of the company.

    What Do You Need?
    To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
    • Bachelors of Science or Masters degree in Mechanical, Materials Science, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred from ABET accredited college or university.
    • Engineer II-2-4 years experience experience in various manufacturing disciplines.
    • Engineer III-5+ years experience in various manufacturing disciplines.
    • Position is on first shift. Must have the ability to flex into other shifts as needed to support production.
    • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings using a GD&T system.
    • Industry experience in grinding process engineering.
    • Must have excellent attention to detail and be able to accurately measure, record and analyze process/part data to ensure compliance with product specifications.
    • Ability to create and troubleshoot programs for inspection devices and other auxiliary equipment.
    • Knowledge/experience in metallurgy and heat treating processes.

    Competitive Salary - The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $84300 - $121000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
