    Job description

    Job Title: Golf Course Irrigation Technician


    Role Description

    The irrigation technician, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system(s). The irrigation specialist is required to report any irregularities in course turf quality to the superintendent or assistant superintendent.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Operate irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
    • Repair the irrigation system, pipes, and irrigation heads as needed.
    • Complete requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
    • Grade and prepare soil base, lay sod, and seed and water greens, tees, and fairways.
    • Ability to operate equipment safely and properly.
    • Operate dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
    • Promptly report any equipment issues.
    • Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety rules and wearing appropriate safety equipment including safety helmets, ear protection, and non-skid shoes.
    • Occasionally supervise a small labor force for special projects, and perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
    • Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment daily, reports equipment problems or failure to the equipment manager immediately.
    • Returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility; and cleans the maintenance areas.
    • Waters and fertilizes tees, greens, and fairways, and under direct supervision of a certified applicator, sprays chemicals on landscape areas.
    • Assists in project work; assists in the construction of new greens, tees, and fairways; grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds trees, greens, and fairways.
    • May be asked to operate mowers, dump trucks or other light equipment.
    • Performs other duties as directed by his / her supervisor.

    The ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills, and knowledge:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Certified Irrigation Technician preferred.
    • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various types of pumps and pumping systems.
    • Experience with HDPE, 2-wire system, Toro Lynx, Toro Smart Hubs, Toro Infinity heads is preferred.
    • Understanding of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf.
    • Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work.
    • Self-motivated, independent worker, detail oriented, strong work ethic, good communicator

    The ideal candidate will have the following competencies and qualities:

    • This position entails working outdoors, often in severe, inclement weather conditions.
    • Able to lift up to 80 pounds.
    • The ability to stand for long periods of time.
    • Able to perform tasks while bending, twisting, kneeling, walking.
    • Must have reliable transportation.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
