Structural Engineer Project Manager Job Description
Project Manager is a technical and managerial position for individuals that typically possess between 6 and 10 years of experience within a consulting structural engineering firm or similar. This role is a progression of the Senior Project Engineer roles below it, and it is understood that Project Managers must possess all skills listed for those roles. This is primarily a client-oriented position. Individuals shall be capable of completing small and large projects of all technical complexities with minimal supervision and oversight. Projects are reviewed technically and financially intermittently by firm Principals. Project Managers are responsible for the technical content of firm deliverables as well as the firm's financial performance and the overall client experience on projects in which they are associated. We are seeking skilled Project Managers who possess a thorough understanding of internal and external costing and billing methodology. Performance is judged primarily on the accuracy and consistency of results as well as the level of independence in which those results are achieved.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesTasks (Technical)
    • Conceptualization and Optimization of structural framing systems.
    • Conceptual and more advanced framing details necessary to economically achieve structural concepts.
    • Primarily oversight and some performance of 3-D Building Information Models (BIM) and 3-D Structural Analysis and Design Models utilizing advanced software programs.
    • Primarily oversight and some computer-aided and hand-calculated structural analysis, design, and detailing of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber systems.
    • Preparation of signed and sealed Construction Documents and other deliverables
    • Primarily oversight and some review of structural submittals and basic RFI's
    • Primarily oversight and some Construction Observation and Special Inspections on Jezerinac Group and other projects.
Tasks (Project Management)
    • All project initiation tasks including project budgeting, proposal creation and project initiation.
    • Scheduling of project Engineering and Building Information Modeling (BIM) activities
    • Budget monitoring throughout course of project.
    • Billing throughout course of project.
    • Complete Client interaction with firm Principals and Project Managers. Point contact for Clients throughout projects.
    • Project closeout activities including confirmation of all Accounting and CRM data.
Deliverables
  1. Complete project documentation including Contract Documents, Narratives and Calculations per JG drawing presentation standards.
  2. Production of Field Observation, Inspection, and Investigative Reports per JG reporting standards.
  3. All updated project descriptions used for marketing purposes.
Knowledge RequiredTechnical
  1. Optimal and appropriate structural systems per building type and configuration.
  2. Optimal framing and detailing techniques to achieve constructible, economical solutions.
  3. Mastery of Model Building Codes, e.g., FBC and IBC and Design Standards, e.g., ASCE-7
  4. Mastery of Material Codes and Design Standards, e.g., ACI-318 and AISC Manuals of Steel Construction
  5. Mastery of JG design, BIM modeling, and drawing presentation standards
Managerial
  1. Mastery of Company accounting system as it relates to project management.
  2. Mastery of project budgeting and monitoring.
  3. Ability to identify and execute requests for Additional Services without alienating our Client.
  4. Ability to positively lead teams of technical staff on projects of all sizes and complexity.
  5. Ability to gain and maintain full confidence and satisfaction of Client throughout project.

  • Production of logical and efficient structural designs that are clearly conveyed to Client through Contract Documents, Calculations and Reports.
  • Completion of consistently profitable projects.

  • Sets goals throughout the day for the completion of individual tasks.
