AVP Consumer Underwriting & Funding
Location: Sugar Land Branch, Houston, TX 77479

Role:
Responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of the credit union’s consumer underwriting and funding departments. Accountable for handling administrative duties of the departments and supporting all the underwriters and funders. Acts as an executive level underwriter. Provides support to the Vice President of Consumer Lending and the Chief Lending Officer as requested.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Manage the underwriters, funders, employees scheduling, timecards, escalation of issues and day to day functions while monitoring the credit granting and updating processes for efficiency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
- As an executive underwriter, maintain availability to personally review and decide the member credit requests above standard or senior underwriter capabilities within the reasonably prescribed time frame.
- Maintain the underwriting and funding department’s organizational structure by properly overseeing, directing, motivating, and coaching the staff in each area. Measure the underwriting and funding departments’ performance with appropriate metrics to ensure prescribed goals and objectives are met or exceeded, as well as oversee the ongoing training and competencies of the staff in each area. Support the teams by filling in where needed to complete daily tasks in a timely manner, while avoiding servicing loans that were underwritten by the AVP, themselves. Maintain accurate statistical records of department activity and relevant information.
- Function as the management liaison between the underwriting and funding teams, and the branch employees, as well as senior management for day-to-day issues.
- Maintain system solutions for business issues related to underwriting and funding to enhance service delivery. Responsible for all regulatory compliance within the loan services.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
Five years to eight years of similar or related experience. Must have consumer underwriting and people management experience.
Education:
(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others are key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
