What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Marketing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Marketing professional, you need a strong grasp of market research, branding, campaign strategy, and typically at least a bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with digital marketing tools, analytics platforms like Google Analytics, and certifications such as HubSpot or Google Ads are highly valuable. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help you craft compelling messages and collaborate effectively across teams. These skills are crucial for driving brand awareness, engaging target audiences, and achieving business goals in a competitive marketplace.

How does a marketing professional typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

Marketing professionals regularly work cross-functionally with departments like sales, product development, and customer service to align strategies and messaging. For example, they may partner with sales to develop campaigns that support lead generation, or with product teams to ensure that promotional materials accurately reflect new features. Close collaboration helps ensure consistent branding and a seamless customer experience. Effective communication and teamwork are key to delivering successful marketing initiatives.

What is marketing and what do marketers do?

Marketing is the process of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service to customers. Marketers identify target audiences, develop strategies to reach them, and create campaigns that build brand awareness and drive sales. Their work often involves market research, advertising, digital marketing, social media management, and analyzing data to measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts. Ultimately, marketers help businesses connect with consumers and achieve their business goals.

Job description

The Design Team creates exceptional experiences for Loop brands and their customers as we evolve from a post-purchase tool into an autonomous operational intelligence system. The team spans Product Design, UX Research, and Brand.

The Director of Design will lead Loop's design function through a pivotal transition: from designing interfaces that merchants navigate to designing systems that act on their behalf. You will expand our design system so that it can be leveraged by anyone, including non-designers, help tell Loop's story via the brand in collaboration with marketing, and generate new ideas in collaboration with research, all while leaning into AI and new ways of working. This, of course, is all ultimately in service of our merchants and their shoppers.

At Loop, we're intentional about the way we work so that we can do our best work. We call this our Blended Working Environment. We work from our HQ in Columbus, OH, or one of our Hub or Secluded locations, and are distributed throughout the United States, select Canadian provinces, United Kingdom, and Australia.

For this position, we're looking for someone to join us in Columbus, OH; or one of our ET/CT (Chicago, Boston, Austin, NYC, etc) Hub locations.

We tried to keep our initial Job Description brief (below), but here's the full version that will tell you more about what is required of the role, and the ideal experience and background to succeed in this opportunity.
What you'll do:
  • Oversee 6-8 individual contributors, as well as agencies, spanning product design, brand/marketing design, and research.
  • Empower the design team through mentorship, critique, and building an adaptable culture needed to build with and for AI-first products.
  • Embrace a multifaceted role where you'll take ownership of both strategy and execution as Loop transitions from reactive tooling to autonomous operational intelligence.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Data, and Marketing teams to help visually articulate Loop's product and brand vision.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing to expand on the story of Loop, it's merchants, and the value Loop provides to it's merchants. On any given day, you and your team may be supporting and contributing to creative for campaigns, launches, events, social and more.
  • Embed design thinking and AI literacy across Engineering, Product, and Design, raising the bar for how we design interactions where a system is making decisions, not just displaying information.
Your Experience:
  • 7+ years of Product and UX Design experience, with meaningful exposure or hands-on experience in brand and research.
  • 5+ years of team leadership and management in design, ideally through a significant product platform shift.
  • E-commerce or fintech experience is highly valued, particularly in environments where design shapes high-stakes transactional trust.
  • Experience designing B2B products, admin interfaces, merchant dashboards, and flows is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building design systems.
  • Experience designing for AI.
$180,000 - $250,000 a year
  • This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus expected to be 15% of your base salary.
  • We know that making decisions about your career and compensation is a huge deal. Because of that, we're incredibly thoughtful about our compensation strategy. We want you to feel safe and excited, but also comfortable with the compensation package of a startup. We've outlined some important information for you here, but please know there's a lot more to compensation than we can cover in this job posting.
  • The posted salary range is the base salary for this opportunity. The salary range is subject to change, and may be adjusted in the future.
  • The actual annual salary paid for this position will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to: your prior experience and skills related to the position, geographic location, company needs, current market demands, and your total compensation goals.
  • Great humans deserve great benefits! At Loop, you'll be eligible for benefits such as: medical, dental, and vision insurance, flexible PTO, company holidays, sick & safe leave, parental leave, 401k, monthly wellness benefit, home workstation benefit, phone/internet benefit, and equity.
