Job description

OpportunityHouston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is seeking a skilled and compassionate Inpatient Palliative Care Provider who is seasoned with broad acute care experience managing a variety of disease states to join our interdisciplinary team at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. As an Inpatient Palliative Care Provider, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive palliative care to patients with serious illnesses, focusing on symptom management, communication, and support for patients and their families.Houston Methodist is proud to be Texas' #1 ranked hospital system and holds a prestigious position by Forbes amongst top Best Large Employer.   • Provide expert clinical care to inpatients with serious illness, including pain and symptom management, emotional support, and communication of treatment goals and options.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare providers, to develop and implement patient-centered care plans that align with patients' goals and preferences.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and develop appropriate care plans accordingly.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to facilitate shared decision-making and ensure that patients' values and preferences are respected.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding disease prognosis, treatment options, and end-of-life care planning.
  • Coordinate and facilitate family meetings and care conferences to address patients' goals of care, advance care planning, and end-of-life decisions.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including performance improvement projects and palliative care program development.
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families, addressing their psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  • Collaborate with other specialties, including primary care, oncology, geriatrics, and other relevant disciplines, to provide comprehensive palliative care to patients with diverse diagnoses.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in the electronic medical record, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited medical school
  • Board certification and fellowship in Palliative Medicine
  • Valid TX medical license
  • Excellent clinical skills and ability to manage complex medical and psychosocial issues
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
