Summary
The Senior Lead Engineer, Software develops, debugs, tests, deploys and supports code to be deployed in systems/products/equipment for various applications. They write, debug, maintain, and test software in various common languages and for software at various levels in the hierarchy (from Firmware to Application). Software creation follows an agreed to development process (such as Agile, Scrum, etc.) and complies with the product life cycle development (phase/gate deliverables).
The Senior Lead Engineer, Software works in cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.
In this role, the Senior Lead Engineer leads Board Support Package (BSP) and firmware development for Celestica's high-performance networking switch platforms, developing and integrating low-level device drivers, customizing BSP and boot code, and driving board bring-up in close partnership with hardware and manufacturing teams.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for BSP and firmware development. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to a team of engineers. May be a recognized expert (go-to person) in BSP or other platform technical areas.
  • Review, interpret and may negotiate customer requirements/specifications, design firmware, provide customer feedback, and ensure quality of deliverables.
  • Lead the deployment of strategic programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts.
  • Participate in managing relationships with key vendors/partners/customers.
  • Develop, test and integrate Linux device drivers for various devices on high-performance networking platforms (Ethernet, I2C, PCIe, SPI, USB, NAND), and customize BSP and boot code for networking switch platforms.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers on board bring-up and with manufacturing teams to support product qualification.
  • Analyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, users, project managers and other engineers, including Peer-Reviews, to achieve elegant solutions.
  • Proactively promote and apply industry best practices, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Hands-on experience implementing device drivers and BSP, with experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams including hardware engineering and manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of real-time operating system concepts, multithreading, and SMP.
  • Strong knowledge of C, Linux driver programming, and kernel architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of Python.
  • Outstanding software debugging skills.
  • Experience using a full range of hardware test equipment such as JTAG debuggers and I2C analyzers.
  • Solid understanding of Linux kernel modules, Ethernet PHYs, PCIe, USB, SPI, NAND, I2C, and SDRAM.
  • Knowledge of Intel x86 architecture and BIOS/UEFI is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Project Management - Ability to lead engineering projects that may involve other functions, with solid understanding of the technical, schedule and people aspects of the project. Able to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans.
  • Leadership - Demonstrate "People & Team Leadership Behaviors" as per Celestica Leadership Imperatives.

Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
