Job description

Senior Financial Applications Support Analyst

Remote – Texas

Contract-to-Hire | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM CST

About the Role

We are looking for a senior-level Financial Applications Support Analyst with 10+ years of experience supporting financial and enterprise business applications.

This is not a Financial Analyst position, and it is not a software-development role.

The right person sits between Finance, Accounting, business users, IT, and third-party software vendors. You understand financial applications and business processes, but you are also technical enough to get into the data yourself, write SQL queries, troubleshoot integrations, identify why something isn't working correctly, and help drive the issue through resolution.

If a financial transaction doesn't process correctly, data doesn't reconcile, or information fails to move properly between applications, you should be comfortable investigating the problem rather than simply escalating it.

This is a hands-on applications role combining production support, SQL, integrations, data analysis, testing, financial systems, system enhancements, and project leadership.

What You'll Do

  • Support financial and enterprise business applications and their associated business processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between Finance, Accounting, business users, IT, developers, and third-party vendors.
  • Investigate production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Write your own SQL queries to research application, transaction, and data issues.
  • Work with SQL JOINs, multiple tables, data structures, and data flows.
  • Perform system fixes and data maintenance when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot software integrations and data movement between systems.
  • Work with flat/delimited files, FTP processes, and application integrations.
  • Support API-based integrations where applicable.
  • Analyze financial and transactional data to identify discrepancies and trends.
  • Use advanced Excel, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.
  • Gather and document business and system requirements.
  • Develop epics, features, user stories, and backlog items for application enhancements.
  • Develop and execute test plans, test scripts, regression testing, and UAT.
  • Support Agile/Scrum development and release activities.
  • Lead application projects and enhancements from planning through implementation.
  • Work with stakeholders to define project scope, schedule, budget, goals, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate business, technical, and vendor resources.
  • Develop user documentation, training materials, and system demonstrations.
  • Participate in production support, including after-hours support when required.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of systems support, applications support, business systems analysis, or closely related experience.
  • Strong financial software/application background.
  • Strong understanding of financial business processes and how systems support them.
  • 5+ years of ERP experience; Eclipse is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on SQL experience — you must be able to write your own queries, not simply execute prewritten SQL.
  • Experience with SQL JOINs and querying multiple tables.
  • Advanced Excel, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and delimited/flat files.
  • Software integration experience.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and data flow.
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) experience.
  • API experience preferred.
  • Application troubleshooting and root-cause analysis experience.
  • Project management/project leadership experience.
  • Experience leading application enhancements from requirements through implementation.
  • Agile/Scrum experience.
  • Strong UAT, regression testing, and test-plan experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent specialized professional experience.

Financial Systems Experience

Experience supporting ERP and financial applications is important. Relevant environments may include:

  • Eclipse
  • Oracle
  • Billtrust
  • GetPaid
  • TM1
  • Kofax
  • Other ERP, accounting, tax, treasury, AR/AP, procurement, or financial applications

Experience with Oracle and Linux is preferred.

Candidates should understand financial processes such as General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Revenue Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Procurement, and the dependencies between these functions and their supporting applications.

The Person Who Will Be Successful

You are probably someone who has spent years supporting applications inside a Finance, Accounting, ERP, or enterprise systems environment.

You're comfortable talking with an Accounting or Finance user about what isn't working, going into the application and underlying data to investigate it, writing SQL to determine what happened, looking at the integration or data flow between systems, and then working with IT or a vendor when a deeper technical fix is required.

You're equally comfortable owning an enhancement: gathering requirements, defining scope, coordinating stakeholders, testing the solution, and helping take it into production.

You don't have to be a developer.

But you do need to be technical.

You don't have to be an accountant.

But you do need to understand financial systems and processes.

And you don't have to be a dedicated Project Manager.

But you do need to know how to take ownership of a project or enhancement and get it across the finish line.
