Overview

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and publication of standards and equipment specifications for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Substations across PPL’s operating companies. The ideal candidate must be highly focused on safety, self-motivated, innovative, efficient, organized, and highly skilled in problem solving. This role requires strong communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to develop creative, practical solutions to complex technical challenges.


Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update T&D Substation standard drawings, design methodology documents, engineering instructions, and equipment specifications in alignment with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
• Research and benchmark industry trends, including new technologies.
• Identify improvement opportunities and recommend enhanced methods.
• Develop Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluate consultant qualifications and proposals, and support the selection of engineering service providers for standards-related projects and initiatives.
• Ability to manage engineering contractors as required.
• Work effectively in a diverse team environment.
• Visit manufacturer facilities, as requested, to inspect and accept new substation equipment.
• Collaborate with project teams to review, evaluate, and disposition standard deviation requests arising during design and construction activities.
• Provide subject-matter expertise on applicable codes, regulations, and company standards to support engineering projects and standards development.
• Reinforce a strong safety culture within the group, through daily leadership and constructive behaviors.
• All other duties and projects as assigned.
• Travel is required on an occasional basis.


Qualifications

Engineer II:

- ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.

Engineer III:
- ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 5 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience.  Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.

Principal Engineer:

- ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience.  Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.

Qualifications:
