Job Description:

Summary

USIC is seeking motivated candidates to join our corporate Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team as the company's regional EHS manager(s) reporting to the EHS Director at the division level.

The Regional EHS Manager is responsible for providing technical operational occupational safety and environmental compliance leadership in support of USIC's commitment to EHS as a core value. This shall be done by assisting operating departments in managing risks and maintaining full compliance by identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazards. This role will be vital to the development and implementation of a company-wide safety, health, and environmental management program.

The Regional EHS Managers DIRECT ACTIONS & TIME OUTS TO ESTABLISH ZERO TOLERANCE FOR AT-RISK LEADER/WORKER BEHAVIORS at the regional, district, supervisor-group, and individual worker levels.

Responsibilities

  • Rigorously drive EHS operationalization and accountability to all employees to reduce enterprise-wide injury & collision risk

  • Drive timely closure of open due diligence corrective actions

  • Drive operational effectiveness for newly integrating EHS programs, including continuous improvement in procedures and tools to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Effectively utilize industry best practices (to leverage enterprise solutions for tactical problems)

  • Ensure every region runs a SAFE-LIFE rhythm, preferably led by region director co-chaired by region SAFE-LIFE Captain, backed up by you, preferably weekly

  • Send weekly metrics that have company, super region, region, districts WCCR, RVA-PMM, JBO % Complete, Driving Performance Coaching %

  • Ensure investigations, legitimate ones, with output deliverables (PPTX lessons learned for each the tech, the supe/DM, the senior leadership team), on all level 3 and higher cases

  • Ensure HP MVA, PSIF, HC Damage, and Tenured Tech Loss corrective and preventative actions are being tracked and completed (”CAPA” Action Tracking System)

  • Professional development: set aside no less than enough time to attend one in-person workshop or conference annually; attend no less than three virtual learning sessions; OSHA30 course

  • Personally get audio comms (phone chat or Face to Face) with every employee who is out of work and then returns, having been gone for 2 days or more due to injury or RVA

  • Ensure SAFE-LIFE Captains are actively performing monthly meeting duties, and that they are providing support to their DM or RD in tangible ways (example: Locate Rodeo and STAR Week)

  • Be the Subject Matter Expert for assigned High Risk Work Activity Program(s) delivering measurable program movement month over month

  • Lead JBO, Case Management, and Emergency Response Training often enough to ensure coverage of all newly promoted supes, managers, directors as well as annual refreshes (SAFE-LIFE Orientation)

  • Lead response efforts for any OSHA/DOT/FAA regulatory issue in your super-region. Support any response effort for any EPA or other regulatory body (to be led by Corp EHS)

  • Personally make contact with response (phone/text/voicemail/email) with every single injured EE and every EE in any RVA, NRVA

  • Enable business growth by leading risk mitigation and EHS productivity enhancements

  • Work collaboratively with regional and local teams to build a strong EHS culture

  • Mentor and guide EHS professionals to implement EHS management systems and develop high performing, employee led EHS teams plus emergency response teams

  • Maintain EHS expertise to provide technical and regulatory support to the operations team

  • Perform program reviews and EHS assessments and drive closure of corrective actions

  • Assist in developing EHS excellence programs: VPP, global star, EHS Excellence as needed

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with regional/local team, community, customers and regulators

  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines

  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Work-travel as required - expectation between 40%-60% (ie 2-3 out of 5 days per week, or 10 business days per four week month

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in curriculum related to safety, or the equivalent in training and experience

  • Minimum of four years in a field operations

  • Ideally an EHS related position in construction, power generation, or technical industry

  • Certifications such as CSST, CSSM, CHST, OHST, ASP, and CSP are strongly recommended

  • OSHA 10 and/or 30 certified knowledge of OSHA CFR 1910 and 1926, NFPA, and Process Safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced in digital Safety Management Systems, DOT Ground Hazardous Material operations/IATA/IMDG, RCRA Hazardous Waste Management

  • Qualified trainer in High Risk Operations to include but not limited to Confined Space/Lockout-Tagout/Material Handling Safety/Electrical Safety, EPCRA Reporting

  • OSHA VPP Certification

  • Preparing ISO 9000 and 14000 certifications
