Step is looking for an experienced product designer who can lead the overall product, design, and UX strategy for growth initiatives (e.g. signup/onboarding, rewards and gamification). We are a design-focused consumer banking product that works on physical products, digital products, and mobile apps. We're looking for someone to roll up their sleeves, lead design on individual features and make design decisions in a role with plenty of room to grow. The ideal candidate is a passionate designer who is proactive in product ownership, comfortable working closely with cross-functional teams to influence product strategy and rally them around elegant, innovative mobile solutions that delight our customers.

• Design high quality interactive experiences across mobile, both iOS and Android, and web
• Lead projects throughout the entire design process; from creative conception to production and release
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Marketing to help define strategy, and the roadmap to achieve business objectives (growth)
• Collaborate and give feedback/direction to other designers to continually push the level of quality on the team
• Evaluate current processes, identify best practices, develop plans to reach goals and implement improvements
• Utilize and contribute to the Step Design System

• Significant demonstrated experience with end-to-end (hybrid UX and UI) product design for consumer-facing products
• Strong visual design sensibility with the range to move fluidly between systemized UI and more expressive, brand-forward moments
• A craft-obsessed designer who strives for quality and has an amazing attention to detail
• The ability to lead design for important projects with experience delegating work and giving direction to other designers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (you should be able to clearly articulate your design decisions and the logic behind them)
• The ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (not just 'how it should look' but 'what we should build')
• Experience in building and shipping applications or software (mobile/web)
• Uses AI as a creative and productivity multiplier - able to move faster and explore more ideas without sacrificing craft or judgment
• Must have a portfolio featuring examples of design work

• Strong fintech experience
• Have led design for successful growth initiatives at scale.

Location: Remote (US) or San Mateo, CA, with occasional travel for team offsites and key meetings

Reports to: Head of Design

Education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
