Position Title
Resident Director--10 Months
Position Summary
The Resident Director is a 10-month, full-time, professional live-in position reporting directly to the Associate Director of Student Life and Housing. This is a fixed-term appointment not to exceed three academic years, with renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and institutional need. As a member of the Residence Life team, the Resident Director is responsible for the overall management of two to four residence halls and the direct supervision of five to twenty paraprofessional staff members, including desk assistant students.
The Resident Director works closely with the Associate Director of Student Life and Housing and the Associate Dean of Student Life and Housing to ensure that the residential program remains current, effective, and aligned with institutional goals. The position supports the implementation of strategies, initiatives, and programs designed to promote the educational, social, personal, and intellectual development of residential students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve in an emergency on-call duty rotation for residential communities serving approximately 1,180-1,485 students in both on-campus and off-campus housing, including crisis response, intervention, and coordination with campus and community resources.
• Supervise, recruit, select, train, and evaluate five to twenty paraprofessional staff members and student desk assistants.
• Assess student concerns and needs, provide appropriate support, and refer students to campus resources, including Counseling Services, Campus Police, and Health Services, as part of a comprehensive student success and care response model.
• Assist with the effective administration of departmental processes, including housing selection and assignments (StarRez), room changes, room inspections, damage billing, and move-in and move-out operations.
• Serve as a student conduct hearing officer for housing and/or college policy violations, utilizing Maxient for case management, documentation, and reporting.
• Review, compile, and process student conduct reports in Maxient, ensuring timely and accurate documentation of student behavior concerns.
• Address student behavioral concerns through educational interventions and the implementation of student conduct sanctions that support student learning, accountability, and development.
• Provide leadership and oversight for the student development, engagement, and residential experience within two to four residence halls, with a focus on student success, belonging, and community building.
• Assist in the development, implementation, assessment, and documentation of departmental systems, processes, and initiatives using data-informed practices to improve student learning outcomes and residential experiences.
• Serve as a liaison between Facilities Management and residential students regarding maintenance concerns and facility-related issues.
• Advise residential Community Leadership Council(s) and support student leadership development initiatives that promote engagement and belonging.
• Manage and reconcile residential programming budgets.
• Conduct regular building inspections, including health and safety inspections, and follow up on identified concerns.
• Prepare and submit semester and annual reports to the Associate Director of Student Life and Housing, incorporating assessment data to inform programmatic improvements.
• Collaborate closely with the Associate Director and Associate Dean of Student Life and Housing and perform other duties as assigned, including participation in student success, engagement, and retention initiatives

Required Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Human Services, Education, or a related field required. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in residence life, student affairs, housing, or a related field is required. Previous supervisory experience is required. A master's degree is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills. The ability to effectively prioritize competing responsibilities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing circumstances is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a diverse and inclusive community and exhibit a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
Experience supporting, advising, and engaging college students is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with students while fostering student development, accountability, and community engagement.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. The ability to interpret and apply institutional policies and procedures, prepare professional correspondence and reports, facilitate meetings, present information to various audiences, and respond effectively to questions from students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members is essential.
Technology Skills
To perform this position successfully, the employee must possess proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and demonstrate the ability to create and manage correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and other business documents. Experience utilizing housing management systems, student conduct databases, and other student affairs-related technology platforms is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable learning and utilizing new technologies and web-based systems.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, use hands to handle office equipment and materials, operate a computer and other standard office equipment, and communicate verbally (talk and hear). The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully.
