Overview

Position Purpose
The Director of Business Development is responsible for leading the organization's franchise development, franchise resale, and strategic growth initiatives to expand the franchise network, strengthen partnerships, and drive sustainable revenue growth. This role oversees franchise ownership transitions, identifies and evaluates new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, market expansion initiatives, and other growth opportunities while collaborating closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to execute the company's long-term growth strategy.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, results-oriented leader with strong business development, financial, and relationship management skills. This individual combines commercial acumen with the ability to evaluate opportunities, negotiate partnerships, and translate market insights into measurable business results while delivering an exceptional experience for prospective and existing franchise owners.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the organization's franchise resale, franchise development, and ownership transition processes, ensuring an efficient, compliant, and customer-focused experience.
- Develop and execute business development strategies that drive franchise growth, increase revenue, and support the organization's long-term strategic objectives.
- Direct the evaluation and qualification of prospective franchisees, resale buyers, and expansion candidates, including oversight of due diligence, financial reviews, background checks, and ownership approvals.
- Build, manage, and maintain a pipeline of qualified franchise prospects, strategic partners, and business development opportunities to support sustained growth.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new markets, partnerships, acquisition opportunities, and revenue streams through market research and competitive analysis.
- Lead negotiations and support the development of franchise agreements, partnership contracts, and other commercial opportunities while collaborating with Legal and executive leadership.
- Develop business cases, financial analyses, and strategic recommendations to support growth initiatives, investments, and expansion opportunities.
- Partner with Marketing, Operations, Finance, Legal, Real Estate, and other cross-functional teams to execute business development initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
- Monitor franchise development and business development performance through key performance indicators, pipeline metrics, and return on investment, implementing improvements as needed.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve business processes, franchise development workflows, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Business Development team by establishing performance expectations, fostering collaboration, and supporting professional growth.
- Represent the organization with franchisees, prospective owners, industry partners, and at networking events, while providing regular strategic updates and recommendations to executive leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Economics, or a related field; MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in business development, franchise development, sales, strategic partnerships, or corporate strategy.
- 3–5 years of experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated success driving business growth, expanding market presence, and achieving revenue or development goals.
- Experience developing and managing strategic partnerships, negotiating commercial agreements, and influencing key stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of franchise business models, multi-unit retail, hospitality, restaurant, or other consumer service industries preferred.
- Experience evaluating business opportunities through financial analysis, forecasting, and business case development.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and collaborate effectively with Operations, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and executive leadership.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven recommendations.
- Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, communication, and executive presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of franchising rules, operations and the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience in franchise development, franchise sales, franchise operations, franchise resales, or multi-unit retail/service organizations strongly preferred.
- Experience within consumer services, retail, hospitality, beauty, wellness, healthcare, or other multi-location business environments.
- Experience evaluating mergers, acquisitions, franchise transfers, or other strategic growth and investment opportunities.
- Experience developing and executing market expansion, territory planning, or network growth strategies.
- Knowledge of CRM platforms, pipeline management tools, and business intelligence or data analytics solutions (e.g., ServiceNow, Lucernex, Power BI, Domo, or similar).

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive Salary: The starting salary range for this position is $135,000–$150,000 annually. The final offer will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, education, skills, and geographic location. This range reflects the anticipated compensation at the time of posting and may be adjusted in the future.
