About the Job


Title: Die Cut Lead - 2nd shift

Location: Onsite in Rochester, NY

Position Summary


At Premier Packaging, the Die Cut Lead is a dynamic, high-performing team leader responsible for supporting daily die cutting operations on an assigned shift reporting into the Die Cut Supervisor. This role provides hands-on leadership to Die Cut Setup Technicians and Operators working on that shift.


The Die Cut Lead ensures production schedules, quality standards, and operational efficiencies are achieved while maintaining a safe and organized production environment. This position is a working leader who combines strong technical expertise with floor leadership, partnering closely with the Die Cut Supervisor, Scheduling, Quality, Pre-Press, and Maintenance teams to support smooth operations and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities:


Production & Operations Leadership

  • Lead die cutting operations for the assigned shift to meet production schedules, quality standards, and efficiency targets.
  • Oversee die cut setups, changeovers, and job execution to maximize throughput and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor production progress throughout the shift and adjust workflow as needed to support daily production goals.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between Setup Technicians, Operators, and support teams.
  • Partner with the Die Cut Supervisor and Scheduling to ensure workflow alignment and on-time delivery.


Technical Leadership 

  • Provide advanced technical oversight for die cutting operations and machine performance. 
  • Support and complete complex setups, troubleshooting, and operational problem-solving as required. 
  • Ensure proper performance of feeders, stripping stations, blanking sections, and delivery systems. 
  • Monitor die cutting performance metrics and implement improvements to reduce waste and improve throughput. 
  • Support technically complex production runs requiring elevated expertise. 

Team Leadership & Development


  • Directly lead and support Die Cut Setup Technicians and Operators assigned to the shift.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to production team members.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new employees and cross-training team members.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment on the production floor.
  • Escalate performance, attendance, or conduct concerns to the Die Cut Supervisor when appropriate.


Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all die cutting operations meet customer specifications, quality requirements, and internal standards.
  • Support and reinforce quality control checks including registration accuracy, cut depth, stripping performance, and finished sheet quality.
  • Address quality issues promptly and collaborate with Quality and the Supervisor to implement corrective actions.
  • Reinforce adherence to ISO, CGMP, safety, and company policies.


Equipment, Safety & Maintenance


  • Assist with machine startups, stoppages, jam clearing, and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Partner with Maintenance to identify equipment needs and preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure all employees follow safety procedures when operating equipment and handling materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout the shift.


Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize machine performance.
  • Encourage team members to contribute ideas that improve die cutting operations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Premier Packaging's operational goals.


Job Requirements


  • 7-10+ years of experience operating or setting up die cutting equipment in a packaging or print manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Bobst 102SE, SP102EII, or Nova Cut equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and support production employees in a team-based environment.
  • Strong understanding of die cutting production flow, tooling, and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets, tooling specifications, and production schedules.
  • Ability to lift items up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout extended shifts.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime when required to support production needs.
