Position Overview

The sommelier plays a critical role in enhancing the overall dining experience by offering expert wine recommendations and exceptional service, ultimately contributing to the success and reputation of the restaurant. They possess extensive knowledge of wine varieties, regions, and pairings and play a vital role in recommending and serving wines to complement guests' meals.

Position Responsibilities

• Ensure proper wine storage conditions to maintain wine quality and integrity.
• Audit paper/ digital menus and POS systems for accurate vintage, varietals and blends, and pricing.
• Provide thoughtful, intuitive recommendations and pairings based on guest preferences, dietary considerations, and menu selections
• Assist in the development of wine and food pairing menus and promotions.
• Train and educate restaurant staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and wine list updates.
• Build strong customer relationships through excellent service and by providing a memorable wine experience.
• Maintain a mastery of the full wine list, including rare, allocated, and emerging producers
• Monitor wine inventory levels, ensuring stock levels are appropriate and that wines are stored correctly.
• Partner with management to help develop and execute marketing strategies to promote wine offerings and increase wine sales.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a sommelier or wine steward in a Michelin-level or fine dining restaurant
• Strong knowledge of wine varieties, regions, vintages, and food pairings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Impeccable presentation and customer service abilities.
• Ability to lift and carry wine cases and stand for extended periods.
• A genuine love for hospitality and guest engagement, with the ability to read and adapt to guest needs
• Certified Sommelier (CMS, WSET, or equivalent) strongly preferred
