Position Description
The Senior Product Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager at the Franklin, WI facility for the Data Center vertical. She/he works within the Engineering Department to design, develop, and document Data Center Indoor Cooling products manufactured by the Data Center team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multi-functional teams to complete engineering projects in New Product development stage and other projects focusing on providing support to compensate for supply chain disruptions.
  • Lead or support new technology platforms, new product, and new product variant program development as needed.
  • Be familiar with the 80/20 principals of product development and customer variants to maintain a global product line while meeting individual customer needs.
  • Lead efforts to assess product performance issues, strive to root cause and lead to effective resolution.
  • Work in collaboration with multi-functional teams such as Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Procurement, Services on New Product Development.
  • Provide support for existing products, including trouble shooting, root cause analysis, and implementing cost savings ideas.
  • Identify customer problems and create functional prototypes offering a solution.
  • Work with suppliers to identify alternate solutions for engineered components.
  • Execute assigned engineering launch activities for awarded business. This includes: completion of customer submittals with all required documentation, release of design and drawings for the product for prototype and production, successful completion of all customer and regulatory required testing for customer acceptance in the field.
  • Conduct the preliminary design for cost estimating and quoting for pursuit of new business. This role is specifically responsible for engineering NRE, validation expenses, and should-cost estimates for materials.
  • Support the change request and deviation process to address immediate manufacturing concerns. Manage from conception to implementation.
  • Contribute to VA/VE initiatives to reduce product cost and improve manufacturability of responsible products.
  • Travel domestically or internationally up to 25%.

Required Education & Qualifications
The minimum requirements are a college graduate in engineering or related technical discipline with 5-7+ years engineering experience. The Senior Product Engineer shall have a strong fundamental background and/or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, psychometrics, and design for manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Analyze feasibility, cost, and return on investment for projects.
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and good mechanical background
  • Prior experience with heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, or other HVAC industry experience, including cosmetic or structural sheet metal design
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems and the ability to interpret FEA & CFD results
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
