Job Description
Huntington Ingalls Industries, Mission Technologies Division (HIIMT), is seeking multilevel Systems Engineers to join our growing team and support advanced work in ModelBased Systems Engineering (MBSE). Candidates at the junior level will build foundational skills while supporting requirements analysis, system modeling, integration, and testing under the guidance of senior engineers. Midlevel engineers will apply prior systems engineering experience to lead portions of technical planning, model development, integration, and verification activities while collaborating across teams. Senior-level engineers will leverage advanced expertise to lead complex efforts across the full system lifecycle, translating customer requirements into integrated digital models, driving technical strategy, and mentoring less experienced team members. Together, these roles offer excellent opportunities to contribute, learn, and grow within a dynamic digital engineering environment.
 

This position is located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Ohio and is within a commutable distance from Beavercreek, Fairborn, Dayton, and Riverside.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Junior Systems Engineer:

Assists with technical planning, system integration, and verification activities within a digital engineering framework. Supports senior engineers in performing analyses using system models. Learns to convert product requirements into systems solutions using SysML and other modeling tools. Participates in functional analysis, timeline analysis, and trade studies to support the development of hardware and software specifications. Collaborates with the engineering team to develop system models and support project goals.

Mid-Level Systems Engineer: 

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and evaluates alternatives including cost and risk. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Develops and maintains system architecture and behavioral models using SysML and other digital engineering tools. Examines and evaluates emerging MBSE tools and techniques to accommodate emerging requirements and mission capabilities.  Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications within a digital engineering environment.

Senior Systems Engineer: 

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and evaluates alternatives including cost and risk. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Develops and maintains system architecture and behavioral models using SysML and other digital engineering tools. Examines and evaluates emerging MBSE tools and techniques to accommodate emerging requirements and mission capabilities.  Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications within a digital engineering environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Junior Systems Engineer: 

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Academic background or project experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
  • Familiarity with SysML and an interest in learning digital engineering tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, Sparx EA, Rhapsody).
  • Basic knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle.
  • An understanding of system design principles and trade studies.
  • Clearance:Secret Security Clearance to start
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with enhanced security checks

Mid-Level Systems Engineer:

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and practices.
  • Proficiency with SysML and digital engineering tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, Sparx EA, Rhapsody).
  • Experience with the full system engineering lifecycle, from requirements development to system integration and test.
  • Performs system design and trade studies to assist algorithm development and system performance analysis.
  • Experience with analysis and modeling tools/programs (such as MATLAB, Python).
  • Hands-on experience with the test, integration, and verification of hardware and software in a lab environment.
  • Ability to contribute to technical documentation and reports.
