What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, usually supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git), content management systems, and sometimes certifications like AWS Certified Developer are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with teams and translating client requirements into functional websites. These skills and qualities are vital for delivering responsive, secure, and user-friendly web solutions that meet business needs.

What are some common challenges web developers face when working on cross-functional teams?

Web developers often collaborate with designers, product managers, and backend engineers, which can present challenges in aligning priorities and communication styles. For example, translating design concepts into functional code may require negotiation and compromise, while ensuring that technical constraints are understood by non-technical team members. Regular meetings, clear documentation, and using project management tools can help facilitate smoother collaboration and address these challenges effectively.

What does a Web Developer do?

A Web Developer is responsible for designing, coding, and maintaining websites and web applications. They work with programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and often backend languages such as PHP, Python, or Ruby. Web Developers ensure that websites are functional, user-friendly, and responsive across different devices. They may also collaborate with designers and content creators to deliver a seamless online experience.

Job description

Salvo is a new approach to help millions of Americans facing chronic health conditions, centered on chronic gut health and metabolic conditions from IBS to obesity. Our patients are assigned a "whole patient" care team and have seven day a week access to app-based care, using Remote Patient Monitoring ("RPM") to bill under the patient's insurance. This is a major step forward to go beyond episodic appointments to continuous care at home, and deliver interdisciplinary wraparound care in partnership with the patient's existing local doctor.

Salvo is backed by leading health care investors from innovators like Livongo, Ro, Ginger, Brightline, Tia, and others. Salvo care draws on expertise from Board-certified specialty physicians, registered dietitians, nurses, psychologists, and therapists who have developed our evidence-based protocols, for a personalized, multi-month journey to better health.

Salvo is the first to bring a scalable and tech-enabled, more integrative approach to these chronic conditions, going beyond treating only the symptoms in order to identify and address the root causes of chronic illness.

As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to frontend, backend, and mobile applications up and down the stack. As a small team, we highly value the ability to learn quickly and participate in a shared responsibility for all the elements of our product.

You will report to the Head of Engineering. We work remotely, but have a small hybrid presence of folks in and around New York, NY. Please note that we cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role.

  • Excitement about working in a dynamic environment with unanswered questions.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
Nice to have
  • Experience with React web development

Salvo is a new approach to help millions of Americans facing chronic health conditions, centered on chronic gut health and metabolic conditions from IBS to obesity. We bring multidisciplinary virtual care to patients at community specialty care practices, particularly GI and hepatology brick & mortar clinics around the US.  We assign each patient a "whole patient" care team and offer daily access to app-based care, using Remote Patient Monitoring ("RPM") and Chronic Care Management ("CCM") to bill. These services are covered by most patient's insurance, both Medicare and commercial.

Salvo represents a major step forward to go beyond episodic appointments to continuous care, and deliver interdisciplinary wraparound care in partnership with the patient's existing specialist.  Salvo customers include over 700 GI physicians who have contracted to bring Salvo to their patients; three of the four largest independent GI practices in the US have chosen Salvo.
Salvo has raised a Series A investment round from leading healthcare investors who backed innovators such as Livongo, Ro, Brightline, Tia, and others. Salvo care includes a team for each patient of registered dietitians, nurses, and therapist/social workers, for a personalized, multi-month journey to better health.
Salvo offers a competitive salary and health benefits, a remote work environment, flexible time-off, a larger sense of mission, and professional development and entrepreneurial opportunities. At Salvo, you will work alongside a bunch of super talented and friendly people, in a culture of constant innovation, marked by relentless curiosity and a sense of empathy.
Salvo is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
