Job description

Packaging Engineer / Product Development Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Packaging / Product Development Engineer to join a leading manufacturer serving the plastics and packaging industry. This position will focus on the development of innovative tooling and engineered products, leading projects from concept through design, validation, and production launch.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly technical engineer with a background in injection molding, tooling design, and product development who enjoys working within a collaborative engineering environment and driving innovation in manufacturing

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of new products from concept through commercialization.
  • Create system-level designs and product architectures for new tooling solutions.
  • Develop and review engineering documentation, validation plans, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in product design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply engineering principles to component selection, material selection, and product design.
  • Perform design risk assessments and support FMEA activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Testing, Software, Electrical Engineering, and Business Development.
  • Support product compliance requirements and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineering team members.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and technical partners on engineering projects.
  • Drive projects through established product development and product release processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering design experience within plastics, tooling, injection molding, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes and engineering project leadership.
  • Experience with injection molding tooling, plastics processing, or packaging technologies.
  • Advanced CAD design experience (NX/Unigraphics preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of component selection including bearings, motors, sensors, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics, seals, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience conducting design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA activities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and within cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, innovation, and organizational skills.
