Job description

Job Description

The role is responsible for overall portfolio or product set performance and asset quality and may include credit approval authority. This position focuses on credit, market, and reputational risk, ensuring adherence to credit risk policies and regulatory reporting. It requires knowledge of an affordable housing loan portfolio and tax credit investment product set, especially Low Income Housing Tax Credit investments.

Responsibilities
  • Sets or oversees the management of risk parameters and guardrails for credit risk while ensuring adherence to risk appetite/limits.
  • Inspects and designs risk scenarios to implement decisions.
  • Supports or oversees the credit approval process, accountable for overall portfolio performance and asset quality, including underwriting, structuring and monitoring.
  • Conducts analysis, develops credit risk reporting for specific products, and monitors key indicators for changes in credit quality.
  • Communicates risk quality changes to senior management.
  • Ensures first‑line credit officers and managers perform due diligence and manage risk within the bank’s appetite.
  • Monitors industry risk governance and potential operational, reputational, and market risk issues.
  • Identifies early risks that could impact the assigned portfolio and coordinates resolution with business counterparts.
  • Translates and manages plans of action to achieve goals across varying audiences.
  • Provides credit policy and portfolio management guidance to business partners.
  • Manages the West Region CDB portfolio and its production offices.
  • Applies Credit Risk Policy, oversees portfolio reviews, forecasts regional asset quality performance, studies industry practices, and collaborates with Credit Officer and Underwriter teammates from deal screening through credit approval, legal documentation and closing.
  • Focusses on quick resolution of problem loans/equity investments.
  • Has joint credit approval authority, provides expertise on complex debt and equity investment exposures, and ensures decisions align with the Bank’s Risk Framework.
  • Works directly with business managers, product and marketing managers, legal, corporate finance, regulatory and executive risk management while managing risks for a multi‑state territory.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to junior associates and contributes to policy updates for Community Development Banking debt and equity products.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of related experience within a financial institution or at least 5+ years of direct experience with federal tax credit investments.
  • Superior communication and credit skills.
  • Knowledge of Community Development Banking operations at Bank of America.
  • Credit analysis and underwriting experience for multifamily housing, including financial accounting principles, loan structuring, and interest rate protection products.
  • Technical knowledge of federal and state tax credit equity investments (especially Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits) or prior risk management experience.
  • Ability to develop close working relationships with various business partners.
