Under the direction of the Plant Manager/Assistant Plant Manager, the Area Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient operations of multiple key departments within the plant. This role involves managing resources, optimizing processes, ensuring safety and compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to achieve business objectives. The successful candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing operations, leadership, and strategic planning.
1. Operational Oversight:
  • Manage daily operations of multiple departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identify, develop and monitor production metrics and KPIs to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

2. Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop department supervisors and team members to build a high-performing workforce.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages open communication and teamwork.

3. Budget and Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet production schedules and customer demands.

4. Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure all operations comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety and proactively address potential hazards.

5. Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles to streamline operations and reduce waste.

6. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain, to support product development and delivery.
  • Serve as a point of contact for customer inquiries and concerns related to department operations.

7. Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare and present reports on operational performance, challenges, and strategic plans to senior management.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and make informed decisions.
  • Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing operations within the plastics industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
  • Proficiency in using ERP systems and other relevant software tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and/or Good Manufacturing Practices specific to the plastics industry.
  • Experience in managing multiple departments or sites.

Working Conditions:
  • Primarily office-based with regular visits to production areas.
  • Some travel may be required between department locations, customer, vendor or for industry conferences.
