What is a PPP loan?

A PPP loan, or Paycheck Protection Program loan, was a type of financial assistance provided by the U.S. federal government to help small businesses keep their workforce employed during the COVID-19 pandemic. These loans were designed to cover payroll costs, rent, utilities, and certain other expenses. If borrowers used the funds for eligible expenses and met specific requirements, the loan could be fully forgiven, effectively turning it into a grant. The program was administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA) and is no longer accepting new applications as of 2021.

What is a PPP loan specialist?

A PPP Loan job typically involves processing, reviewing, or managing Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan applications for small businesses. These roles were in high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic to help businesses secure forgivable loans through the Small Business Administration (SBA). Responsibilities may include verifying financial documents, ensuring compliance with program requirements, and assisting borrowers with loan forgiveness applications. Many of these jobs were temporary or contract positions offered by financial institutions, fintech companies, or government agencies.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a PPP loan specialist?

To thrive as a PPP Loan Specialist, you need a solid understanding of financial analysis, loan processing, and SBA regulations, typically supported by experience in banking or finance.
