Job description

Overview

As part of the Flavor and Taste Technology team, this position will support PepsiCo’s global and regional beverage innovation, develop flavor and beverage prototypes using internal and external flavors, build differentiated flavor systems by working closely with Flavorists and product developers; and validate new ingredients for taste modulation. Support Flavor and Taste Technology team to ensure Pepsi beverage products are legal, safe, stable and consistent.

Responsibilities
  • Apply the flavor and/or sweetener systems to beverage products to determine optimal performance in the finished product.
  • Successfully complete evaluations and validations of new flavors, ingredients, and new technologies.
  • Knowledge or experience in flavor or taste modulation.
  • Design experiments to test hypothesis, collect data and present results.
  • Understand and conduct entire formulation process including: accurate formulation /prototypes, new ingredient and flavors specifications & handling, and computer entry of formulations and evaluation results.
  • Order and submit raw materials and/or finished flavors for analytical and sensory evaluation via Flavor QC
  • Work closely with other functions: product development, regulatory, documentation; Interface with production and other PepsiCo functions as necessary for completion of job tasks
  • Knowledge of Flavor compounding and applications as well as associated tools and equipment;
  • Participate in tasting and product evaluations.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $88,200 - $147,650.
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process.
  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 8% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • B.S. with 5+ years, M.S. with 2-3 years, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Food Science or related discipline in Flavor industry
  • Product and/or flavor development/compounding expertise, demonstrating concept prototyping capability and creativity.
  • Highly motivated with the demonstrated ability to work independently and efficientlyas well as in a team environment
  • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing, including documenting lab work accurately into laboratory notebooks in a timely and organized manner and presenting results.
  • Ability to taste and discriminate sensory properties of flavors & applications.
  • Strong computer skills, including, Microsoft Office, and, other PepsiCo systems as introduced and required.
  • Strong practical math skills (e.g. calculating and preparing dilutions of flavoring materials, batching beverages, etc.).
  • Strong organizational, project management and communication skills and ability to interact productively with internal/external partners.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Safety awareness as a condition of employment
