In the role of Tribal Relations/Cultural Resources Specialist 2, we'll count on you to:
- Lead and support Tribal consultation efforts in compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks (e.g., NHPA Section 106, NEPA), including preparation of consultation documentation and tracking of communications.
- Conduct proactive, non-regulatory engagement with Tribal Nations, Native groups, and Indigenous communities to foster long-term, respectful relationships beyond project-specific requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate Tribal participation in cultural resource surveys, including organizing logistics, field access, and safety planning.
- Act as a facilitator for Tribal Cultural Specialists during field investigations, ensuring that traditional knowledge, cultural values, and protocols are appropriately integrated into survey efforts.
- Provide guidance to multidisciplinary project teams on Tribal concerns, cultural sensitivity, and consultation best practices.
- Identify opportunities for early engagement strategies to reduce project risk and improve outcomes through meaningful Tribal collaboration.
- Assist with preparation of technical documents, including cultural resources reports, consultation logs, treatment plans, and memoranda of agreement.
- Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities to integrate Tribal collaboration into project pursuits.
- Prepare and review technical reports for compliance (NRHP evaluations, survey reports, treatment plans, consultation summaries).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan and implement cultural resources strategies that incorporate Indigenous perspectives in the planning, management, and execution of archaeological surveys and site documentation, including artifact identification, feature recording, mapping, photography, and field evaluations.
- Manage Tribal resource surveys from inception to completion and direct Tribal cultural specialists.
- Support archaeological investigations through all phases of work, as needed, including field survey and reporting.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to participate in fieldwork, including walking over uneven terrain in varying weather conditions
- Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone, and email
- Ability to travel (approximately 25-50%) for project coordination and field support
- Must have a valid Driver's License and the ability to operate a vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree (M.A., M.S., or PhD) in Anthropology, Archaeology, Native American Studies, or a related field
- Experience facilitating Tribal monitoring programs or ethnographic studies
- Knowledge of regional Tribal histories and cultural landscapes
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
- Previous experience working as a liaison or coordinator in cross-cultural settings
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in team environments

- A minimum of 5 years experience in cultural resource projects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with project compliance-related activities including consultation, quality assurance and reviews
- Willingness to work under varied weather conditions
- Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
