Job description

Lead Pastor Opportunity At Eastpoint Community Church

Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with Eastpoint Community Church in Newark, Delaware, as they search for their next Lead Pastor. Eastpoint is a small, close-knit, baptistic church with a strong family atmosphere, a high view of Scripture, and a heart to reach unchurched families in their community.

This Lead Pastor will provide spiritual, visionary, and organizational leadership for the congregation—serving as the primary teacher and shepherd while partnering with a committed lay leadership team to guide people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. They will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and be energized by the challenge and opportunity of leading a church replant.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A warm, approachable shepherd who genuinely loves people and thrives in a small, family-style church.
  • Humble, transparent, and "real," willing to share their own story while pointing people consistently to Jesus.
  • A collaborative leader who enjoys working with an existing leadership team.
  • Mission-minded and entrepreneurial, able to help the church grow in a healthy way while preserving its treasured family culture.

The Lead Pastor at Eastpoint Community Church will serve as the primary preaching and teaching voice on Sundays, giving clear, Scripture-saturated messages that are honest, relatable, and focused on helping people live out their faith throughout the week. In addition to preaching, this pastor will shepherd the congregation through prayer, pastoral care, and personal presence in the life of the church family.

The Lead Pastor will help clarify and pursue a unified vision for revitalization and growth—reaching new people while caring well for a faithful core group of 20–30 attendees. This includes championing outreach, investing in younger families and youth, and aligning ministries with Eastpoint's mission and values, all while maintaining the church's highly valued "everyone-knows-your-name" culture.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preaching & Worship Leadership – Serve as the primary teaching pastor, delivering biblically sound, engaging sermons and leading the church in prayer, worship, and the ordinances.
  • Spiritual & Pastoral Care – Shepherd the congregation through counseling, visitation, crisis care, and key life events (weddings, funerals, etc.), cultivating a deeply caring, family-like environment.
  • Vision & Strategy – Cast and communicate a clear, compelling vision in alignment with Eastpoint's mission and values, working with the leadership team to set goals and move the church toward healthy growth.
  • Leadership Development – Oversee, encourage, and equip volunteer leaders and ministry teams, fostering a culture where people discover and use their gifts in ministry.
  • Outreach & Community Engagement – Model and encourage evangelism and community involvement, helping Eastpoint connect with unchurched neighbors, young families, and the broader Newark area.
