Job description

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is currently seeking a Full Time Accountant for its Finance Department located in Newark, New Jersey.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Responsible for the overall financial activities and a function of a major not-for-profit social service organization includes analytical review of general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements in accordance with corporate policies and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Document financial transactions by entering account information
  • Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents

SCHEDULE:
  • Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm

IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING ABILITIES & SKILLS:
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge and proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Ability to rapidly learn and use the Agency's data financial system to ensure timely and accurate closings of the Agency's financial system
  • Ability to work closely with program managers to ensure accurate reporting of transaction according to approved internal and government budgets

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a related field required

1 to 3 years of experience in finance, business or accounting is preferred but not required
