Surface Management is a critical part of that platform โ€“ focused on helping customers understand, control, and optimize their mine in real time, including material movement, production tracking, and geospatial intelligence.

Lead, Autonomous Solutions Management Engineer (MineStar)

you will own the delivery and evolution of MineStarโ€™s Surface Management capability, serving as the primary leader responsible for defining solution vision, strategy, and execution. Operating at the intersection of customer value, product strategy, and engineering delivery, you will translate complex mining challenges into outcomeโ€‘driven solutions, align global crossโ€‘functional teams around a shared roadmap, and drive prioritization based on customer impact, business value, and strategic objectives. In this role, you will lead the advancement of surface management capabilities, including production and material tracking, digital terrain and surface modeling, and geospatial analytics, while ensuring solutions deliver measurable operational improvements for mining customers. Through close partnership with business stakeholders, engineering teams, and customer sites, you will provide endโ€‘toโ€‘end solution leadership and accountability, balancing nearโ€‘term delivery objective with the longโ€‘term evolution of the MineStar platform.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead the vision, strategy, and roadmap for MineStar Surface Management solutions, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Translate complex mining and operational challenges into scalable, outcomeโ€‘driven solutions that deliver measurable customer value.
  • Prioritize solution development initiatives based on strategic alignment, operational impact, and economic value.
  • Drive endโ€‘toโ€‘end delivery by aligning Product, Engineering, UX, and Data teams around clear objectives, scope, and success criteria.
  • Balance shortโ€‘term customer and business priorities with the longโ€‘term evolution of the MineStar platform and Surface Management capabilities.
  • Advance key solution domains, including production and material tracking, digital terrain and surface modeling, and geospatial analytics.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, engineering teams, and mining operations to define priorities, validate outcomes, and ensure adoption of delivered solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for the Surface Management solution domain, driving alignment, execution, and continuous improvement across global teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management based on business need.
What You Have (Basic Requirements):
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering (software, electrical, computer) or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
  • Software Product Testing: Knowledge of software product testing; ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software product quality and adherence to stated requirements.
  • Application Development Tools: Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and methodologies of artificial intelligence (AI); ability to develop, implement and/or apply artificial intelligence products and services in specific industry domain to achieve business goals.
  • Programming: Knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools; ability to test, write, design, debug, troubleshoot and maintain source codes and computer programs.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

  • Previous experience in mining, resource industries, or MineStar technologies preferred.
  • Previous experience in product management, solution management, or leading complex system-based products and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, develop solutions, and execute against business outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across global, crossโ€‘functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Working knowledge of fleet management systems, surface and terrain modeling, autonomous mining solutions, data platforms, and analytics technologies.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $183,140.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, jobโ€‘related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
