Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Interpret and enforce all flag football rules
  • Safety and direct supervision of program participants
  • Perform set-up and take-down of program related equipment
  • Complete necessary paperwork specific to job responsibilities (attendance forms, accident/incident report forms, facility checklists, scorecards, etc.)
  • Invoke and impose penalties for violations of said rules
  • Make decisions on any point not specifically covered in said rules
  • Examine equipment and playing area
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with players and coaches
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Work closely with the Parks and Recreation Department staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed

Typical Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled as a Senior in High School
  • Physically capable of performing and demonstrating program related activities
  • Able to work duration of the program as assigned by supervisor
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
  • Knowledge of the rules and officiating skills of the game of football
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure

Employment Period: September - October (Training August)
ADULT SPORT OFFICIAL II REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED
Pay Grade 4; $17.88-$19.97/hour;
โ€ข Two years officiating experience
YOUTH SPORT OFFICIAL III REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED
Grade 5: $19.98-$23.11/hour;
โ€ข Four years officiating experience or a combination of past experience at the junior high or high school level
โ€ข Earned the respect of participants, coaches, and the public through past work in the department
WIAA Certified Sports Official: $31.53 per game
Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED
At least 2-4 years of officiating experience
This position is a non-benefited position with the City of Appleton.
