Overview

FMI's Training Institute Programs Practice is seeking an experienced and collaborative Programs Director to own and scale the performance, growth, and overall success of FMI's experiential learning programs. This role is accountable for financial outcomes, client experience, and team execution across a portfolio of offerings.


For more than 70 years, FMI has partnered with organizations across the built environment to develop exceptional leaders and build stronger, more profitable businesses. This role requires the ability to understand and engage with the unique challenges and opportunities within this industry.


The Programs Director will have direct oversight of core programs, including the Project Manager Academy (PMA) and the Construction Executive Institute (CEI), with the opportunity to expand into additional performance and technical offerings.


This role owns program execution, financial performance, and team development, while driving innovation in content, delivery, and client experience. The Programs Director will also contribute to facilitation across programs as needed.


This is a full-time position based in either our Raleigh, NC or Denver, CO office. This role requires approximately 30-50% travel, with increased travel in the initial months to enable deep immersion in FMI's programs, clients, and team to accelerate onboarding and effectiveness.


Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. FMI is unable to provide visa sponsorship.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for FMI's experiential programs, ensuring alignment with firm strategy, market demand, and evolving client needs
  • Own end-to-end program performance across assigned offerings, operating each program as a business with accountability for revenue growth, profitability, client experience, and continuous improvement
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of Program Operations Managers, Coordinators, and subcontracted staff, setting clear expectations, driving accountability, and ensuring operational discipline
  • Own program financial performance, including revenue growth, forecasting, budgeting, pricing strategy, and margin management
  • Lead business development for assigned programs, including client discovery, proposal development, and pricing strategy, with accountability for pipeline performance and enrollment targets
  • Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Consulting, and Operations to drive program visibility, demand generation, and execution excellence
  • Own the end-to-end client and participant experience, ensuring programs deliver practical, industry-relevant outcomes that drive retention, repeat business, and long-term client relationships
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and overall program impact through systems, processes, and operational improvements
  • Participate in facilitation and content refinement as needed, ensuring alignment with built environment client needs and translating industry challenges into practical learning experiences


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, education, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in program management, organizational development, or leadership development, including direct team leadership
  • Experience owning or operating a P&L, business unit, or revenue-generating program strongly preferred
  • Proven experience managing complex programs or business units with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and driving revenue or margin growth
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Experience in facilitation, coaching, or leadership development preferred
  • Experience in the built environment, including construction or related industries, strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Salesforce, NetSuite, and Cvent
  • Ability to operate effectively in dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous environments with minimal direction
  • Ability to lift program materials (50-100 lbs.) with support
