Job description

Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Yoga Instructor leads safe, engaging, and inclusive yoga classes that support the YMCA’s mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The instructor creates a welcoming environment for participants of all fitness levels while promoting overall wellness, mindfulness, and connection.

Essential Functions
  • Plan and lead safe, effective, and inspiring yoga classes aligned with YMCA standards and member needs.

  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and modifications to accommodate varying skill levels and abilities.

  • Ensure participant safety by maintaining proper alignment cues, monitoring class flow, and responding to individual needs.

  • Build authentic relationships with members and help foster a sense of belonging within the class community.

  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes and events.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of studio space and equipment before and after classes.

  • Promote YMCA programs, special events, and wellness initiatives.

  • Maintain required certifications and attend staff meetings and continuing education trainings as requested.

  • Uphold all YMCA policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Qualifications
  • Current nationally recognized Yoga certification (RYT-200 or equivalent preferred).

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

  • Strong knowledge of yoga principles, anatomy, alignment, and mindfulness practices.

  • Ability to modify movements for diverse populations, including beginners, older adults, and special populations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to demonstrate yoga poses and movements.

  • Ability to stand, bend, stretch, and move for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 pounds.
