Ranch Creek Excavation a subsidiary of Devils Thumb Ranch Based in Winter Park, Colorado, specializing in high quality site work, excavation, and infrastructure projects throughout the mountain community. We take pride in building safely, efficiently, and with respect for the challenging alpine environment we work in year-round. We are currently seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to join our field operations team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work on active construction sites, operating heavy equipment, and contributing directly to the success of projects from the ground up.
Principle Purpose of Job
The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and precise operation of heavy construction equipment on active job sites. This position supports excavation, grading, roadwork, utilities, snow removal, and general site preparation activities. Operators will work closely with foremen and crew members to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate heavy construction equipment including (but not limited to) excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, rollers, and haul trucks.
  • Perform site preparation tasks such as excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material placement.
  • Assist with utility installation, foundations, roadwork, and general earthwork operations.
  • Operate snow removal equipment during winter months, including plows, loaders, and other snow-management machinery.
  • Read and follow site plans, grade stakes, and direction from supervisors and foremen.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance.
  • Identify mechanical issues and report needed repairs promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members to coordinate workflow and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain common to mountain construction environments.

Requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience operating heavy equipment on construction sites required.
  • Experience with excavation, grading, or site development preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and expand skill set.
  • Ability to work long hours, including early mornings, and adapt to changing site needs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • CDL preferred but not required (depending on equipment operated).
