What is a yield manager?

Yield Managers are professionals responsible for maximizing revenue by managing and optimizing the pricing and availability of products or services, commonly in industries like airlines, hospitality, and advertising. They analyze market trends, demand patterns, and competitive data to make informed decisions about pricing strategies and inventory allocation. By using specialized software and analytical tools, Yield Managers aim to sell the right product to the right customer at the right time for the best possible price. Their work plays a crucial role in improving profitability and ensuring business growth.

How does a yield manager typically collaborate with sales and marketing teams to maximize revenue?

Yield Managers work closely with both sales and marketing teams to ensure that pricing strategies align with market demand and organizational goals. They analyze booking patterns, monitor competitor rates, and adjust inventory allocations to optimize occupancy and profitability. Regular meetings are held to share data insights and coordinate promotional campaigns, ensuring that all teams are working together to achieve revenue targets. This collaborative approach helps quickly respond to market changes and capitalize on new opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a yield manager, and why are they important?

To excel as a Yield Manager, you need strong analytical skills, a background in finance, economics, or business, and experience with revenue management principles. Familiarity with revenue management systems (RMS), data analytics tools like Excel or Tableau, and industry-specific software is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making abilities help you interpret data trends and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These competencies are vital for maximizing revenue, optimizing inventory, and supporting the organization's financial goals in dynamic markets.

The Zebra was recently named Austin Business Journal's 2026 Best Place to Work. Our motto is "All Stripes Welcome." Building the best product, the best teams, and the best company comes from inviting a diverse array of voices, backgrounds, and perspectives to contribute, making everyone feel welcome. Our Zeebs are passionate about learning, growing, and working together to tackle exciting problems.

The Role

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Manager of Commercial Monetization & Yield with expertise in performance marketing marketplaces, ad tech yield optimization, and dynamic bidding (ex-QuinStreet, MediaAlpha, or similar lead-gen/referral ecosystems). Sitting within Commercialization, this role serves as the tactical driver bridging commercial strategy, growth marketing, and data science.

You will directly own the ongoing optimization of dynamic tiering rules, buyer rejection mitigation, and yield management across our funnels.

Location

Our company headquarters are in Austin, TX, but our employees work remotely across the US. For folks who live around Austin, we offer the option to join us in our office or opt for a hybrid setup. Whether you prefer the structure of an office, the convenience of remote work, or a mix of both, we support what works best for you!

Please note: at this time we are not able to hire in Massachusetts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Yield & Monetization Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize traffic allocation, buyer payout thresholds, and dynamic pricing models to maximize revenue per session and gross margin.

  • Algorithmic & Tiering Mechanics: Partner directly with Data Science and Engineering to refine intent prediction models, buyer allocation logic, and yield-maximizing algorithms.

  • Buyer & Routing Performance: Analyze buyer rejection rates, integration bottlenecks, and partner ROI to adjust real-time traffic routing rules and tiering strategies.

  • Commercial Bridge to Technical Teams: Act as the internal commercial operator for Data Science, translating marketplace dynamics and unit economics into actionable SQL/Looker data models and engineering requirements.

  • Reporting & Analytics: Build and maintain operational yield dashboards, tiering performance trackers, and dynamic bidding analytics.

Qualifications
  • 8-10+ years of experience in performance ad monetization, marketplace yield management, or digital referral monetization (experience at MediaAlpha, QuinStreet, or similar insurance/financial platforms highly preferred).

  • Strong technical analytics toolkit with hands-on proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools (Looker, Tableau etc.).

  • Proven experience collaborating with Data Science / Machine Learning teams on bidding logic, algorithmic tiering, or yield optimization.

  • Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of performance marketing unit economics (CPA, CPC, CPL, marginal yield).

  • Digital marketing, including familiarity with performance marketing strategies, audience targeting, and analytics.

  • Strong understanding of insurance carriers, products, and distribution models, preferred

Why Work Here?
  • When we say "All Stripes Welcome," we mean it. Considering viewpoints outside of our own creates a better, more inclusive experience for everyone.

  • We live and breathe inclusion. You will be part of a wide array of voices, opinions, and experiences that inform everything we do.

  • We believe in innovation. You will be part of experimentation, creative problem solving, cross-functional collaboration, and testing new approaches, tools, and ideas.

  • We trust our teams. You'll own your work, balancing personal accountability with team accountability.

  • We care about each other. You'll join a team that truly lives their values, both in and out of the office.

  • We take thoughtful action. You will be empowered to do the right things as efficiently as possible.

Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive compensation & stock option offering

  • Health, dental, vision & disability coverage

  • Sabbatical program for tenured employees

  • HSA with employer contribution

  • Fertility support through Carrot
