Job description

Job Summary

The Transload Operator supports safe, efficient material handling by operating heavy equipment and managing key rail activities. The role also maintains a clean, hazardfree worksite and follows all SOPs and safety protocols to ensure reliable operations.

The ideal candidate is safety-focused, adaptable, and competent in equipment operation and basic maintenance tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, skid steers, railcar movers, and aerial work platforms (AWP).
  • Manage rail operations such as rail switches, spur lines, and transload conveyance systems.
  • Perform yard and facility housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Complete equipment checklists, inspections, and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
  • Report equipment issues or malfunctions to the Superintendent or Operations Manager.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and investigations.
  • Complete required safety and equipment training or retraining.
  • Use all required safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment operating heavy equipment or rail equipment. 
  • Flexible mindset with willingness to assist in yard and facility housekeeping.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely and follow SOPs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Work Environment 

  • Manual labour is required.
  • Working outdoors is required year round.
  • PPE is required to be worn at all times when working on site.
  • Site consists of variations in temperature and noise levels.
  • Sensory attention/mental stress can be quite high during high production periods.Â
