Job Title:  Investigative Producer - WSOC TV

Position Overview

WSOC TV Charlotte is looking for an Investigative Producer!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research, write and produce investigative content on all platforms for WSOC/CMG Charlotte
  • Actively support the Action 9 brand by investigating tips, responding to emails, letters and phone calls, identifying possible interviews, conducting interviews and writing news stories
  • Contribute investigative ideas and elements to daily newsgathering
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts to serve as sources for stories, confirmation of information and background information
  • Lead investigations within CMG Charlotte and, as needed, across Cox Media Group
  •  Knowledge of courts, police records and government operations
  • Collaborate with legal counsel as needed
  • Submit and manage public records requests  
  • Manage and produce investigative shoots as needed
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness and other journalistic ethics
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong editorial judgment
  • Knowledge of undercover investigative techniques as well as laws regarding libel, privacy rights, audio/video recording and property rights
  • Strong research and data analysis skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
  • Experience in television news, preferably in investigative and/or consumer reporting
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Ability to travel if needed
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and credibility
  • Understanding of social media
  • This position requires in-person work at CMG Charlotte
